Gear selector on Auto box won't go into P position.

Featured Replies

My 2005 1.9TDI Superb with auto transmission decided not to come out of Park position earlier this afternoon. I was facing uphill so felt there was load on the gearbox and gave it a good tug to release it. Now it drives fine but when I park I can't select P . Move the lever forward and it comes to a hard stop before locating "P". Then of course the ignition key can't be removed until P is selected. Any helpful advice much appreciated. Pressing the brake pedal is operating what sounds like a solenoid as usual and the light alongside P lights and goes out as normal.

These auto levers are problematic. You will probably need a new one, they are well over £100 from a main dealer. You cannot source a used one as they are one time fit only, the mechanism moves irreversibly into the engaged position. I thought about getting a MOMO Automatico universal one as a cheaper (and better looking - ? subjective), but not sure if it would fit, but sure looks good.
