Airbag light vRS 2010

Featured Replies

After spend today doing this:

I now have an airbag fault light up and assume this is due to not disconnecting the battery :( something I have previously experienced problems with.

If I find someone with VCDS can they switch this off?

Yes, VCDS is the only way to clear the A/B fault.

did you switch the ignition on without replacing the glovebox?

If so this will be why. It saw the switch was missing/unplugged and caused and error to log

I did exactly the same thing 2 weeks ago (I also posted a topic asking about it). Took the glove box out to route a cable, forgot about the yellow connector, put it back togetherand went for drive - sure enough I had the dash warning light and the flashing "AIRBAG OFF" warning just below the heating controls.

I was aware what the switch did, but thought I wouldn't need to disconnect the battery as I wasn't working directly on an airbag. I suppose I would have been fine too if I hadn't been a div and forgotten to reconnect it.

its not due to not disconnecting the battery

its simply because you turned the ignition on with the airbag switch unplugged. Nothing more

As a warning - normally the safety systems will be disabled if the Airbag light is on, so in the event of an impact you may find that the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners do not deploy.

So take care until you get the light re-set.

Sorry for confusion, I was trying to explain (very poorly) my two separate failings:

i) To be safe, probably should have disconnected the battery while working on something involving airbag wiring system

ii) Didn't reconnect yellow plug and turned ignition on.
