Nice handling Monte

Featured Replies

Well, I have to say it might not be fast, but it goes nicely round the twisties now!

It was great after having the Eibach's (30mm drop) and H&R (25mm) rear anti roll bar on, but I have just added some FK wheel spacers and changed the bushes for the SuperPro increased castor ones, the whole kit consists of:

  • Front wishbone - front and rear sets (rears having offset for increased camber)
  • Front anti roll bar (20mm for the 1.6crdi)
  • Rear trailing arm

The FK spacers:

  • Fronts: 10mm either side
  • Rears: 15mm either side

The difference is amazing! I would highly recommend these to anyone wanting to improve their handling!

Steve

Out of interest have you tried the spacer the other way around? 15mm front, 10mm rear?

Reason I ask is wider tracks help reduce weight transfer like lowering does.

Do you find the increased castor gives more feel to the steering?

Yes, it wants to centre more - I much prefer it!

No, 15mm on the fronts would be a little too close I think.

Good, that's what increased castor angle should do...I'll bear this in mind for the future.

Looks good - got some stance now!!

Best looking Monte I've seen by a country mile. Awesome.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but what's the rear trailing arm for? I'm having my monte lowered next week and was considering having spacers fitted, would you recommend them?

It need a bit more a stance lol

Rear anti roll bar reduces under steer and roll.

So a rear trailing arm is the same as a rear anti roll bar? I understand the RARB reduces roll etc. but not about a rear trailing arm lol

Sorry I am a bit numb when it comes to cars :)

I believe he means rear anti roll bar as I have no idea what a trailing arm is lol

To clarify....

The rear trailing arm IS NOT THE ANTI ROLL BAR....

It's the actual suspension arm, hence the name trailing arm.

Steve :)

Rear axle?

Never heard trailing arm used before - must be a porn star word...

It is the bar which is attached to the axle marked as (4) on the diagram. As the axle runs width ways across and this arm runs from front to back it gets the name 'trailing' arm.

These bushes do also get called the 'beam mount' bushes.

Steve

As i said before. The bushes make a surprisingly big difference. I was very very impressed with mine. And for only £280 fitted its a bargain thanks to a basic rear beam setup. To do this on an Octavia vRS its 3 times as much due to the independant rear suspension.

My H&R Front ARB is available if you want it.

I'm in the process of getting 11mm FKs all around but now that you mention 15mm for the back I'm having second thoughts. If you load the car aren't you gonna be scrapping the fenders?

You managed to buy a car from faintree?

amazing considering they never phoned me back about a test drive and 2 friends at work also never got test drives let alone any deal below rrp. Ricky there is a total imbecile.

looks good though ;)

Somebody is eagle eyed!

I've been going to faintree for well over ten years now - I wouldn't trust any other dealer with my old 440+ bhp octy....I have always found them to be excellent, they are a very successful dealership.

Plus, I got nearly 2k's worth of extras on my Monte for nothing.

I speak as I find, and wouldn't fault them at all.

Steve :)

10mm up front is perfect.

15mm on the rear is close, but not too worried. No rubbing issues as of yet.

Steve

Mine goes for servicing. Made the mistake of not putting a note on dash saying do not clean though and came back looking like it had been attacked with a scouring pad

Other half has just bought a vrs and the dealer matched the drive the deal Price. However, their post order customer service was nothing short of appalling.
