Numpty Jacking Question

Featured Replies

I've always jacked my car on the sills as well it was easier and to be honest my attitude was meh

However thanks to my trolley jack the ends are starting to look super crumpled, and i'm worried if i do it much more the scissor jack will be uselsss if i get a puncture.

If i'm avoiding trolley jacking the sills where should i be jacking the car?

I'm assuming bottom of the suspension strut but i made a jacking assumption once on my first car and put the jack through the wheel well in the boot!

I got a thick block of rubber off ebay and use that between the jack and the sills. Problem solved.

useful going forward and i did dig out an old bit of decking board which obviously has slots in it and would spread the pressure nicely in the interim

however given impending wheel change tonight where should i be jacking?

If it's not too low jack it on the subframe underneath.

I normally jack mine here:

Hmm, I'm sure when I asked on here some time ago about jacking on the console mounts(?) I got a flood of 'noooo!'

I've never had any issues but happy to listen to advice if they can suggest somewhere else that isn't the sill. :)

I made some blocks out of wood with a slit in them to jack off the sill :)

Get a couple of Ice Hockey Pucks from krazy kenny,,Cut a slot as in the one shown on E Bay.. Place cut puck on trolley jack and position at the jacking points on the vehicle you will have no problems and will not damage the sills.

OR jack up using the widow maker supplied with the vehicle then insert stands or trolley jack under suitable suspension point, then remove widow maker and you will have an excellent working area.

If jacking one wheel only under body do not open the doors or boot, this goes back to Mini's Allegro's !800 and many Fords the body will distort.
