I can't see anyone saying anything of the sort. There must be something about Skodas though because as far as I can tell, you drive a Passat and yet still live on here?

I have a lot of personal friends on here and I impart my knowledge on the Octavia to help others, just because I no longer own one doesn't mean I cant be on here , I rejoined FREEDOM as well after I changed to my R36 to help the site grow. Some of my posts have had 39000 views

Well I never would have guessed my post would have generated so much debate. I think people are right about French cars I did not fancy any of them. It just took me by surprise when I was in a car fai

  • Which is a surprise considering how quickly modern Peugeots start falling apart! Good luck with the new car.

5 days of ownership and I have not even had to refill the tank. This car is amazing. Chill daveyboy life is too short. You see, the cars relaxed driving and stunning looks have made me come over all d

Just did 1,000 Kms on a tank, nothing to report! liking the car very different power delivery and have to look at the speedo to see how I am getting on, weird but stress free.Doing a trip up to Bergerac soon (8 hours) so lets see.

We had a 308SW which was OK until the clutch overheated at West Midland Safari Park on a Bank Holiday. The dealer said it was normal and to be expected. My ar*se! Never again with a Pug!

Hi, I swapped my 2010 Octavia 1.8 TSI estate for a new Peugeot 508 estate just over a year ago. I'm not brand led and buy what I like at the time. I love this car, it's 2.0 diesel has averaged 46.9 mpg which is fantastic. No rattles ( a problem that plagued my previous Skoda) and I'm still discovering gadgets that I didn't know existed. Never right off buying French, the stereotypes are thing of the past-they build good cars. The dealer thus far has been fantastic too.

French cars have never been good. And if you're only getting mid 40's from a modern diesel I'd be worried.

How can you say that without knowing how and where he drives it?

If he's sat on the motorway at 60 all day it's bad. If he is in town a lot and has a heavy right foot then a true 47mpg is respectable.

Most modern diesels can be driven really hard and still achieve that figure. Maybe it could be down to how he drives. Even my old ZR TD managed 45 with a mix of town driving and A road blasts and that's a tractor engine!

But the ZR is also a lot lighter than a 508SW

For that last year my wife has been off and it has only done 5600 in the year. All bar one trip to London was, schools, shops, doctors etc. The DPF light has never illuminated. Now my wife is doing a 50mile dailty commute the figures are starting show 52-54 mpg. Im pretty impressed to be honest. The engine is also far quieter than any Skoda diesel I have had the pleasure of driving. Im not saying it does not have its quirks but French cars really have a come a long way. I would not hesitate to have another.

Glad you're enjoying your pug, as you point out what's good or bad for 1 isn't necessarily the same for everyone. On the DPF front if it's anything like the CR engine you won't get a DPF light on unless there's something seriously wrong - CR engines do regens in the background without any lights coming on, which is a bit of a pain really as I'd like to know when mine was 'doing it's thing' to save interupting the cycle part way through so it avoids it's 'Look at me I wannabe a harrier jump jet impression' :giggle:

sorry double post.....

Peugeot as a company are in serious finacial trouble, it's got that bad the Peugeot family are willing to sell their controlling stake to anyone. They even approached GM and VAG looking to sell which they both laughed at and refused.

I would reckon Peugeot UK ain't gonna be getting much support from France at the moment and this will go all the way down to sorting out goodwill fixes from the dealers.

Notwithstanding that the 308 SW I had for 2 weeks was terrible, it felt and drive like a car from a generation ago.

Hi all, just got back from a 1600 km round trip to Bergerac great run. Did the 800 up there on 3/4 of a tank with wife child and 2 dogs without any incident. Cruising at 170 km was a joy. No rattles niggles or issues. Driving position very good but I wish the accelerator was anchored to the floor. It did not like switching between iPhone,iPhone 5,nano and note through USB but might have been my fault. Great GPS with live traffic that got me round the hell that is Bordeaux on the busiest weekend on French roads.

I have always reserved critism of anything until I have tried it myself. Every car maker makes good models and not so great in my humble opinion octavia 2 and 508 SW

I always thought after driving both for a bit the Pug 407 was a better motorway cruiser than the Passat, but every rep out there had a Passat because of the badge.

I bet the repair bills for the Passat were higher too, but hey ho that dont loose value that fast... oh scratch that they loose value at an unreal rate!..but it did have a VW badge on.
