Just traded the Octavia for a 508 SW, good move!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have just traded my 2006 Octavia 2.0 TDI with 220k (km´s) on the clock for a 508 SW, if anyone is looking for a replacement and cant get their hands on a superb Estate (as I could not here in Madrid) this is a very nice car. Stable, quick, large, all the toys you could need. I also got a nice model 7 months old and 4k on the clock for 16K GBP.

65€ to fill the Skoda and 85€ for the new car though!

I know that this is probably not the best place to mention this but I thought I would share this info as this site has been a fantastic source of information for me over the years. The Peugeot forums are miles behind Briskoda!

Well I never would have guessed my post would have generated so much debate. I think people are right about French cars I did not fancy any of them. It just took me by surprise when I was in a car fai

  • Which is a surprise considering how quickly modern Peugeots start falling apart! Good luck with the new car.

5 days of ownership and I have not even had to refill the tank. This car is amazing. Chill daveyboy life is too short. You see, the cars relaxed driving and stunning looks have made me come over all d

Good luck with the new car.

Literally one of the ugliest cars on the road. Only bettered by the saloon/hatchback version...

Enjoy!

We had this a few months ago in a thread and it turned out that the majority of ex Peugeot owners had suffered more since transferring to skoda lol.

I've had a fair few, and TBH all were very reliable. My brother had an electrical issue though which is where they can fall down.

Don't get me wrong - I'm happy with my Octy and if I had my money back would probably buy the same again. I just happen to have spent twice as much on repairing my my last skoda than all four of my peugeots added together ;)

Oh dear, I suppose that both Davey Boy and Booke have actually driven one. When you did what exactly did you not like about it and which bits fell off? Horses for courses on the looks, the Skodas for me are just boring now and do not have the same value for money as they used to.

I'm the opposite!

My last car (Peugeot 307sw) was forever going back to the garage for something! It ended its life with me with a 'bodge' repair of some flap wedged open by the mechanics (deliberate to solve loss of power issues) and needing £3500 worth of work on a car that was only valued at £3000.

I met the receptionist from the Peugeot garage a couple of years later as she had changed jobs to the Post Office, and she remembered me and my car! That's worrying.

Suffice to say it had to go. And my Octavia estate has been the most reliable and best car I've every owned. Apart from suspension bushes, nothing untoward has gone wrong in 4 years ('07 plate car).

Peugeot and lots if toys & space & trips to the garage every other month? Or reliable & fun & economical?

I know what I'll be choosing next time.

But each makes their own choices...

Horses for courses - if the OP is happy with his choice of car then that is all that matters. If we all wanted or liked the same thing then the world would be a very boring place. My personal choice, from past experience is to avoid anything French (the Citroen C1 that the wife has is a rebadged Toyota) however I know people that have been very happy with their Gaelic motors.

There are still people that delight in taking the wee-wee out of my decision to swap a BMW for a Skoda...

Blimey poor chap for liking another make!!! Its good that we can look beyond old stereotypes about car manufacturers being rubbish. I'm glad no one thinks Skoda are a rubbish brand anymore lol! I love my Skoda and have had a good few over the years. I've also had my fair share of pugs starting with an old 309 as my first car. Never had problems with any of them including the 3008 I had before the vrs. Quality of that was very good. Interior nicer than vrs imo. As ever experience good and bad for any mark. However I do think pug dealers generally poorer in service but I think its now just a matter of preference once we move away from badge marketing and old preconceptions. My pennys worth anyway. Interior of 508 quality. Enjoy but don't bother with pug forums as rubbish. Not up to Briskoda :-)

We ran 307's at work, all from new. One was a lemon that was forever in the workshop and was eventually humanely put down. One ran to 243k (pool car) with no problems before we got rid. The third is currently at 166k and going well (touch wood). We now run 2 Octy's, a pd and a cr, a 170 Superb and my VRS all going well at various mileages and levels of abuse.

or is a toyota a rebadged peugeot or citroen?

Built in the czech republic too, so maybe not very french or even japaneses for that matter, maybe more czech?

Good choice I have a mate on here that got one as well. They look terrific in my eyes . I loved my vrs but I had the abs module fail, a new ecu and tumble flap failures . A mate on here with his Tsi vrs a new engine after the chain tensioner problem and mates Fabia petrol vrs a new engine too ,so never buy German ! Oh wait I have an R36 now.Don't be so blinkered thought skoda owners had an open mind

To be honest im not a fan of french cars full stop (so not just Peugeots) but its fair to say theyve come along way since the days of really tinny build and v poor electrics.

For me I feel that they are nearly all generally overdesigned; I cant actually think of a Renaut, Peugeot or Citroen I have seen in recent years that ive really liked the look of.

Last one I drove was a Citroen C4 2.0 HDi 163 and I think the only two things that really impressed me about it were its standard equipment roster and the fact it'd pull away in 2nd from stationary with no argument; otherwise it looked funny and did still feel v cheap compared to the MK6 Golf I was driving at the time.

Still actually the 508 SW isnt a bad looking car really and if we all drove the same cars world would be v dull indeed.

I had 3 Citroens in the past when money was tight, really abused them & they never let me down, for comfort the suspension I think is still the best you can get. If they didn't loose value so quickly I would definitely consider another & with the Octavia now becoming very expensive for what it is I might take another look next year as there are some cracking deals on them

Sorry it wasnt a C4 it was a DS4! I actually quite like the DS3 but I still wouldnt have one.

If a Renaultsport Megane 265 cup was a better looking car id have one on my driveway!

Blimey poor chap for liking another make!!!

Yep, poor chap, almost a new member and he's had nothing but negative comments about his new pride and joy

I'm suprised he hasn't hung himself, give him a break

ps:- your right though they are sh1te...........Only kidding, Enjoy

before converting to vw group I had 2 Espaces both had problems then a peug 405 estate terrible kept it 3 mths electrics fuel consuption terrible price for most spares so went to v dub then skoda had 4 vw's touran was the worse for problems although all done under warranty, my new yeti with be my fourth skoda and no problems with any, quite apart from fantastic trade in values on all of them.

The 508 is a nice luxo barge that wafts along without any fuss. I've driven one and if you're the sort that doesn't do the twisty stuff, then it's fine. The EGC gearbox on other models is something that rhymes with bright though.....

Err..............ChrisRS has an Octavia Vrs and mine's fine " You have more Mates " :giggle:

Yes Mr popular me

Certainly not a bad car at all; I think french cars are like marmite to most though you either like or dislike them.....im not a fan sorry but thats certainly not said to belittle someone buying a 508. Im sure its a nice car and if you like it then thats all that really matters.

I think its fair to say that French cars generally arent as popular in the UK as they once were; and one of their major weaknesses in the UK at least is their poor residual values. In Spain could be an entirely different scenario.

That said the non sporty Octavia's dont do alot for me either; the vRS is the only one that took my fancy only because it amounted to a budget well equipped Golf GTD and was a much more versatile family car. If Skoda didnt make the vRS variant I doubt id be driving an Octavia either.

I dunno, the Renaultsport models seems pretty popular. I would have one. :)

Dont get me wrong they drive great and the motoring press rave about them but id hardly classify the new Clio turbo or the Megane 265 as good looking cars. In fact Renaut wrecked the looks of the last gen Clio when they gave it that opened mouth facelift.

Have to agree to disagree on that one, I like the new Clio and Megane, especially in yellow. :giggle:

I had to chuckle.

All those having a pop at Peugeot, remember where Skoda was a few years ago?
