clunk/creaking noise in steering

Featured Replies

Lately while driving there is a noise in the steering. It can also be heard on rough roads. The car passed the NCT (mot) in the last month and had new drop links and cupra console bushes fitted.

It only seems to happen when driving. No noise when you turn the wheel while parked. Its coming from both sides of the car. It sounds like its coming from the shock. Top mount bearings?? Or would/should hear them when parked up too?

Cheers

Had it up on stands today. Cant see anything out of place, no springs broken and the arb is not moving about.....

Sounds like mine, I replaced a spring and top mount bearing etc and still the same so give up...

grease bushes ... may just be one thats a little dry

i have this issue, its driving me mad! i seem to get mine fairly often these days, how did u check the top mounts?

mine was very creaky while going slow over bumps so got it checked in a garage and was told it was my lower arm bushes so got them change and the noise has totally gone.

Mine mostly happens when you turn the steering. It sounds like its coming from behind the dash which brought me to top mounts. I don't think there is any point taking them out to grease them up. Better off replacing them??

My top mounts are creaking ect when turning corners slowly, just ordered a pair of new bearings off gsf. . 21 quid.
