2.0l to a 1.9l

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Been a member a few weeks now but haven't posted anything but learnt alot already.

Just wanted to post up what has has happened to me over the last couple of weeks.

Bought a 2.0 octavia estate 06 plate whuch to say the least was the best car I have ever owned.

Unforseen to me and the sales man it had a few underlying problems which showed there ugly head afer a few hundred miles.

First it looked like there was a coolant leak as I had to top the system up twice within a week.

Then the air bag light came on which they fixed but after a week came back on then had trouble fixing it.

At the same time I hear a small whistle which at first thought it was just me but when the wife noticed it thought there must be a problem.

So went back and they diagnosed a failing turbo and they weren't prepared to put fix the problem but they said they would find me another car.

At the time I thought why you are going to lose more money getting me a new car.

They had the same spec car in the show room but it was a hatchback which I was considering taking but really wanted an estate so I held out fir what I wanted.

The next few days I heard nothing then got a call saying they had one for me to look at.

Went in and had a look at first I was a bit unsure as the car wasn't the same spec as my old one but was 3 years newer so he said take it out for a few days and see what you think with no obligation to buy it which I thought was very nice if him.

Well after driving it for a couple of days I liked it just as much as the other car.

My old car was a 2.0 elegance 06 plate and my new car is a 1.9 ambient 09 plate and the thing is people say that the 2.0 is a quieter car but to be totally honest there is very very little in it.

The one thing I have noticed from the if it when I topped the 2.0 up it gave me a range of 590 miles and the 1.9 gave me a range of 790 miles.

Only time will tell if I made the correct choice but all is looking goid so far.

Newer car sounds the better bet to me.

Assuming you've got the PD engine you've got a bullet proof engine with no DPF, so providing it's serviced properly should last for ages. SWMBO has one in her Seat and it skios along quite nicely and feels quickerthan it probably is due to the low down torque which actually makes it more fun to drive. Hope it gives you years of happy motoring.

Yeah i thought the same.

It dose have a few more miles but 3 years younger kind of swung it for me.

As far as I'm aware is a 1.9 pd bke engine.

Just had a major srevice and new discs and pads on the front.

Got rid of my last car with 150k on the clock so lets hooe thus dose the same or better.

As far as im aware it doesn't have a dpf as it has ogg on the sticker in the boot.

As above.

1.9 is cracker.

Youve done the best thing, new one is three years newer and the 1.9 whilst not quite a pokey is bound to be more frugal and cause you less problems down the line. Ambiente spec is the equivalent to todays SE spec anyway so im sure youve not lost a great deal of spec in the swap anyway.

None of the 1.9's in the Octavia have a DPF.

The one thing I'd miss would be sixth gear.

Went from a vrs pd170 to to 1.9 pd tdi and generally speaking I like it.

Yes it is slower but in the real world stuck in traffic and town driving it is fine. Get 550 + or - miles ish to a tank with a mix of motorway and town driving.

A sixth would be better and I do miss it. Looking into the remap at the mo which should give approx 135 to 140 bhp and loads more torque

Sounds like a nice seller too (rare nowadays).

Good choice of car the 1.9 and not bad spec.It will have the BXE engine which is the last of the 1.9,s made before discontinuing them.Great motor and very economical.

Hope you enjoy it :)

Must admit the sixth gear is nice.

Makes a change to meet a good seller for a change.

Just noticed the driver side mirror doesn't want to budge so popped in to see him.

He checked it and he couldn't move so booked it in next Saturday for a new one fitted.

Really can't fault them at all.

Who's the seller? With customer service like that I think they deserve a plug.

Bought it from the trade car outlet in Ossett.

They actually work for skoda dm kieth.

Think this is where they sell all the cars that come in for a part exchange or upgrades.

Well all the ones that they think are worth selling on and all the rest I think they just send to the block.

Would recommend them highly.
