top of the range?

Featured Replies

Hi folks ignorant newbie (me) has had his 61 plate 1.4 tsi elegance for a couple of months now and i am loving it!i bought the car believing it was a top of the range model i obviously knew it didn't have satnav etc and i am happy with the car, very happy!

my question is are smart steering wheel, heated seats, folding mirrors, guide you home lights, equalizer on the bolero et al all extras? i do have heated mirrors, cruise control, dual climatronic and rear parking sensors! is my model a kind of "base" model elegance? i have been looking at upgrading the Bolero to a columbus looks straight forward but not sure that i need it as i am happy with sat nav on my phone. What if any are the most desirable? easy lol upgrades i could make to the car!i am very happy in the way it handles and goes!

It feels much lighter (cos it is!lol) and just as strong through the box as my previous car a Toyota Avensis T-spirit 2.0 D4-D (lovely car but a little dull)

Sorry for the monologue but you folk seem to know your Skoda's!

thanks

Billy

The items you mention may be available as extras on the Elegance, but the top of the range model is the L&K, where a lot of the extras you mention are standard....along with Xenon headlights and possibly auto dimming external mirrors and leather seats.

Ok thanks booke

There are still a few options selectable on the L&K. Not sure you get Columbus satnav or front sensors as standard for example, they were certainly an option on earlier cars rather than standard.

VAG are pretty terrible that nearly everything is a option, regardless of spec level. So you never really know what you get used and the new price is deceptive.

As said above Elegance just below L&K where you get MFSW, Folding dimming mirrors, elec seats etc.

Not to start a huge debate but its debateable which model is actually top of the range as such. The L&K is a normal octavia with lots of standard luxury equipment but has standard suspension, brakes and engine choices from the lower model range. The vRS on the other hand does not have loads of toys (SE spec + 2 zone climate best way to describe) but its the only car with all the sporty add-ons, has a bespoke chassis and braking configuration and the only variant available with the TSi 200 and TDi 170 CR engines.

I'd personally go as far to say a high spec vRS probably just tips an L&K to the top spot but its all matter of opinion.

Fair point. L&K is top of the range for gismo lovers!!

Agreed.....and I'm definitely a gismo lover......and with the number of potholes on the roads these days, I'm also a fan of higher profile tyres and softer suspension setups. Which will always rule out a vRS for me.

I'd have loved an L&K but with a TDi 170 engine ...shame they never did one. Got to give the VRS a performance advantage over the other models in the range I suppose.

Tuning chips are your friend!!

Tuning chips are your friend!!

That is true. But then it would have been even nicer to have got an L&K 170 and tuned it to 200 bhp

They were in the 80s. Now a remap is your friend.
