airbag light after speedo fitment

Featured Replies

...so I took out my speedo, changed the face and the needles. Then before putting mine back on, I tried the spare VRS peedo - the one I fooled around with the led lights and wanted to see if I did a good work. All ok. Took it off. Then I put back on the original one, and ever since the airbag light keeps coming on. I plugged the VAG COM in, did a reading, I did NOT include airbags, cleared the codes, the light however still stays on.

I tried to read the modules but VAG COM warned me that some airbag controllers, even just with a reading they can be damaged. And obviously that put me off. My car is a 2002 AUM 1.8 20VT, with Revo2 etc, would I be ok to read faults including airbags?

Only scan the airbag controller is you have a current version of VCDS or VCDS-Lite. It's only early versions of VAG-COM that have the problem.

Did you have the steering wheel off?

steering wheel did not come off.

I have one of the early versions of VAG COM, would that be ok?

That might be risky.

so did you scan the airbag module, pretty sure you say you didn't in your top post, so it can't be that thats causing it then.

did not scan the module. I checked on a VRS clocks that is not mine, then I put back on mine and the light came on right away

Did you try turning on the car without the clocks in? That will throw up the airbag light.

I've seen it twice on different Octavias when I changed the LEDs

no because there was no point, I only wanted to see if the leds I connected in the VRS clocks all worked fine (which they did).

I forgot to say that the airbag light came on with the VRS speedo, but obviously I ignored it as I thought that it came on because of the immobiliser or something... and I did not try to start the car either, just turned it on to see the leds
