Substitute for Nokia Maps?

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I tend to be an early adopter of new tech but once I've bought the piece of hardware I need my attention to the issue fades away until it breaks.

This is the case of my mobile, a Nokia 2710. Surely not the most advanced HW even in its time but it did well what I ask from a mobile: making calls.

Besides, it combines two things I deem useful: physical keyboard (not a touchscreen) and a free GPS service (Nokia Maps).

The other day I casually browsed through the Nokia website and discovered that:

A. physical keyboards are now a feature only of the very basic mobiles (none of them with GPS capability);

B. Nokia Maps doesn't exist anymore. Or at least it's been superseeded by something else.

Now the QUESTION:

Should I be forced to substitute my current mobile soon, is there another device like that? I mean: a good non-touchscreen mobile providing free GPS service?

Thanks.

I suppose that's like asking for a corded phone instead of a cordless one?

Nokia now call their map Here Maps and you're able to download and use them offline which can be handy when abroad without a data connection.

Unfortunately getting this package in a non touchscreen phone may prove difficult though!

Wonder if the latest blackberry Q10 with a physical keyboard would suit? It has blackberry maps, no idea how good/bad that is though.

Nokia maps has just been rebranded

I feel as if I'm living in a parallel universe lol!

Using a touchscreen phone behind a plastic protective screen with bike gloves on is a bit of a problem...

Thanks all.

N720 might be worth a shot. It's usable through gloves i hear.
