Estate Roof rails

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm toying with painting the roof rails on my black scout silver, so I did a quick search on here and there are a few posts about it, but I was wondering if anyone had ever actually removed their roof rails? ( I couldn't find a definitive answer)

I've taken off the end caps and there are the usual torx bolts to remove but I don't know if they bolt into captive nuts in the roof or if its a headlining off job?

Can anyone confirm this?

Cheers

Java (see the 'you're doing it right' thread) removed his.

No need to remove the headlining. Dead easy.

unbolt and bolt straight back on?

^^ like he said

I had mine done rim/wheel type paint, 3 years tomorrow

Yes. I took those roof rails off from my Pre-FL. One rail has five torx bolts that holds it on the car. They have used a fair amount of threadlock on those bolts and they are tight but with a little force they will open. After the bolts are removed, you can remove the rail. Very simple task and can be done in five minutes. :)

Thanks all. So nuts must be captive somewhere in the roof. Good news!

Did you get anywhere with this?
