Discounts on a Monte Carlo Tech?

Featured Replies

Hi all I am about to order the above in white with a 1.6TDI. Dealer is saying that "they make nothing on them other than £500 handling fee". I am a little sceptical of this but does anyone have any recent haggling experience for this model.

Thanks,Dave

Can get a 1.6TDI monte tech for £11526.68 OTR.

Thats the one ;)

Don't know where you are located but there are a few dealers dotted around the country that will match them

I bought mine through DtD with no issues. They just pass your details on to their preffered dealer. Just meant i had to get a lift to London to save £4k off my local dealers 'rock bottom' price.

Thanks jrw. I'll look into it.

I bit less room for negotiation when they are limited to 1000

& its already been said on here that there were no more Red available.

How many were showing with the Dealer you were dealing with?

I think dealer said 3 petrols & 3 diesels all in white (which would be colour of choice anyway)

Not really when you can just phone up DtD and get it for the price i have quoted. They will have the same access to the vehicles as any Skoda dealer in the country. It is up to the dealer whether they want to make a loss but take a sale to keep their numbers up, provide good service in the hope you will return for repairs and to get a new car in the future.

If they don't want to match, just phone up DtD and order through them.

I initially wanted a Tech, but would have had to wait an estimated 12 weeks for it. The dealer offered me a 'standard' Monte 1.6 TDi in the colour I wanted which had been spec'd with over £500 of extras for the same price, and it was already at the distribution centre. Me being the impatient type took the deal and had my car a week later! :)

I anyway have a stand alone SatNav and don't much care for BlueTooth (had it in a Toyota once), so I was quite happy with rear parking sensors (for when the missus drives it of course ;) ), full sized spare wheel (hate the foaming stuff!) and rear electric windows.

Having said all that, I still managed to haggle a decent price for my trade-in car.

Hi Dave,

Are you prepared to travel in order to buy? If so, how far?

I ordered a new Fabia last week, but when I was originally looking at buying an SE, I was fully prepared to travel 100 miles to save £500+ and made it clear that I'd only given three-or-four dealers the chance to quote me. However, one particular company, who may-or-may-not advertise on here, offered me a very good discount and talked a good game, but after several conversations, when I wanted to finally sort things out the discount had effectively been retracted. Don't get me wrong, they were nice to talk to, very helpful and more knowledgeable than the average dealer, however I needed a decent deal if I was to travel some distance in-order to buy a car.

The incredible thing was that of those four dealers (which I picked because they didn't shut me down when I initially mentioned discounts), none of them were in a rush to get back to me or be tied-down to a final price. In the end, even the aforementioned dealer kind-of got a bit funny, saying in writing: "I'm not interested in getting into Dutch auctions". That was definitely not my intention and I had made it clear that I would buy from whoever offered me the best deal within 100 miles. I appreciate that car salesmen don't like it if you play one dealer off another in terms of quotes, because you could have no intention of buying from the more distant dealership really.

Ultimately though, the attitude of the dealers that I'd asked for a quote actually sent me to the one I was initially trying NOT to buy from! So, in the end I changed tack and ordered a Monte Carlo 'Tech' from a much more local dealership, the one I had reservations about (although I'm glad to say that my opinion of the company/ staff completely changed after we got talking). And I can reveal that I did get a reasonable discount, even though I too heard about their more limited margin, which I guess is likely to be true because the car was released at a fixed/ lower price of £12,990 i.e. it isn't a £15,000 normal diesel Monte with a VAT-free offer.

So, what do you want... £300 - £500 off a Tech, or £600, £700, maybe £800 off a normal Monte by pushing for a deal, which would still cost you more than the Tech once you add Satnav and Bluetooth? NB. Personally, I wasn't interested in having a car delivered on a transporter/ dealing with the 'DTD' type companies; I'm just too fussy a customer, not to mention sceptical.

A neighbour of mine seemingly was ill last night after i upset him yesterday afternoon,

They drove 300 miles south to buy a new car for his son.

Its the same type of car that they both have owned 3 of and have had nothing but bother with,

and they were always back and fore to the dealer that is 20 miles away,

New cars for the father, and bother,

second hand for the son and Turbo went, etc,, then another bought of the same and the gearbox played up..

So to save £2000 (he says.)

& i have no idea about the trade in, if any.

They drove south and collected the new car, and were delighted showing it off to all.

Then there appears to be some trim missing and some bits and pieces not right.

So the Supplying Dealer could not care less.

They say just go buy the bits, at any dealers, they can only sell as a pair, and all the usual stuff.

Customer Services for the Manufacturer could not care less, they say see the Dealer.

What upset the Neighbour first yesterday was,

The Local Dealer they used and abused before, and could or would not match the deal, really could not care less,

and ordered the parts, but asked for payment over the phone. as they do.

Then have not delivered the parts, and rightly so, they were not asked to.

So the neighbour is telling me all this, and i said ,

'So.'

,You saved £2000

less Travel costs and some parts they have now bought for say £100,

and the goodwill of the Local Dealer and the other nearer Dealers,

'Suck it in!'

The other thing i asked was, 'Did you buy the extra Warranty at the time?',

& the answer was 'No, we can buy that later'.

He then went on about Registering with a Dealer, and i said go on the Phone, online or fill in the card,

why did you not do it on collecting the car, if you need a Warranty Claim its going to be going someplace here, or getting Serviced here anyway.

Just checked today,

and they could have had the same car near here for the same money as they paid.

After all they are not selling well.

Best not tell him.

Where abouts in the country are you?

I went to Martin at Doncaster Skoda and he was superb, very helpful and matches drive the deal prices. Not pushy at all, almost the opposite in that he wanted me to take my time and get the spec right.

I wanted to get the car locally but the dealer wasnt interested and didn't return 3 of my calls after a test drive.

I've now ordered a white Monte Carlo Tech. Paid effectively list for the car but got,in my opinion a blinder of a p.ex for my existing car so I am more than happy with the deal. A bonus is that the dealer has the car in his compound so I was able to have a good look around it and drive it before signing the order form.
