ASR Warning light problem now resolved

Featured Replies

remember me and a couple of others were getting an intermittent ASR light while driving?

the light would come on but seem to have no ill affects on the car and would go off once the ignition was killed and the car restarted.

well i cleaned the Jabba induction kit and MAF on saturday and so far havent seen a single repetition of the above problem.

used RS electrical component cleaner (solvent based) to clean the MAF and its obviously done the trick.

Hey Nigel, interesting to read your post.

I had this EXACT problem, and someone at the time said to clean the MAF. Being a total RS noob, and the fact i'd only just bought the car, i took it to the dealer, who replaced something to do with the braking (?). When i mentioned that people had mentioned the MAF, he totally dismissed it and said that, "that wouldn't affect the ASR light....". Anyway, whatever they did seemed to work. i'd done about 1,000 miles since having it done, and it hadn't popped on once. Then first thing this morning (did rain heavy last night) after going about 1 mile.. bang on it popped :(

I switched off the car and it didn't come back on all the way to work (20 mile journey, 30-60 zones, so gave it a bit of a trash in parts).

Thing is i'd rather not have to phone the dealer AGAIN with the problem, as its a 1 hour trip and if cleaning the MAF is an easy job i'd rather just have a go myself. Can someone provide me some details as to how difficult this job is, where i can find the MAF, and whether or not i should just take it back to the dealer (again)

Thanks as always!

D.

The MAF is bottom RHS in the first pic and top RHS in the second.

There is a guide to cleaning a MAF here on SportCompactRacing but you will need to register to be able to view it. Alternatively read this thread which has all you need to do the job bar a Torx bit and cleaner. :)

Note: i dont have a torx bit so could only spray the cleaner through the meshing on the housing towards the actual sensor.

Emptied about half a can of the cleaner into it though and a fair amount of poop came dribbling out the other end.

like i said though, this hasnt caused any problems since.

brilliant, thankyou both.. think im going to give it a go then :)

did this last Friday (since the weather was finally nice!). Was pretty straight forward, managed to get a can of electrical cleaner for

@DWG - haven't got an Octy myself but just wanted to say that's a VERY clear picture there, any chance of turning it into a guide (or moving it into one, as it appears pretty much like a guide already anyway ) :)
