Sudden failure of a bleed nipple

Featured Replies

Unbelievable as it is one of the bleed nipples on my brakes just failed catastrophically (not a Skoda one). I had just braked from a hundred & !! at a roundabout having shown a Merc that a Skoda is quicker  I bimbled through the next couple of roundabouts which were about 100 yards apart & at the next the brake pedal sank slowly to the floor, a few stabs on the pedal arrested the car.

Limped it gingerly back to the dealer having guessed it was probably the master cylinder but what had happened is the bleed nipple had simply let go & was merrily spurting fluid everywhere, I never thought these could fail so suddenly

Weird - it must have come loose - had the brakes been serviced recently?

Even if the end broke off, fluid shouldn't escape as normally it's tightened down onto the hole at the bottom of the thread - the bleed hole is in the side of the nipple.

..lucky you didn't get a spray of fluid all over the paintwork !

Bugger the paint, lucky you are here to post about it!

Picking the car up today so havent seen it yet, aparently it was pouring out of the centre of the nipple, something the dealer was suprised to see. I had the fluid changed a few months ago & the original nipple had siezed so it had been replaced at that time

Standard calliper?

If it is, dare I ask if it is under warranty? Assuming the rears are still standard :)

Calliper has been pronounced as OK, bleed nipple wasnt replaced by Skoda therefore not covered by warranty which is fair enough.

Dealer as always has done a cracking job & fitted the car in at short notice.

Due to its iminent European tour they have given the brakes a thourough road test, hope they enjoyed it as the boost was left on high ;);)

 Lucky you got out of that one ok!

Glad to hear its fixed
