Putting music on Columbus hard drive

Featured Replies

Hi, my Octavia came with the Columbus sat nav but no manual! Can I save music from a cd to the hard drive? If I can how do you do this? Thanks Matt

thanks very much

Yes you can transfer music onto the Columbus from a CD as I have done on a few occasions. BUT (there always has to be a but doesn't there!) It has to be a data CD and not an audio CD like you can buy in the shops. An audio CD won't transfer or even give you the option to.

To get a data CD you can burn one using Windows Media Player but you have to change the burn settings from audio to data CD, you can then get a lot more songs on there.

To be honest it will be easier to use your copy and paste facility in Windows to get your music onto the SD card, BUT ( ok so I'm being greedy and using 2 buts here!) if you have a firmware version which is quite an early one, earlier than 2642 if I remember correctly, you will only be able to use an SD card up to 2GB capacity as the system will not recognise and be able to download from a high capacity SDHC card.

Also, another hint here, if you want to be able to use the mix facility to play all the music on your hard drive randomly then you will have to put a single track in the root folder where you would put the artist names and start with playing that track. Otherwise it will only play the tracks in the folder you are currently in. i.e. the album you are playing.

Hope that helps get you started and enjoying your Columbus.

Ian

P.S. As your signature says your vRS is a PD engined one have you made sure it has been in for the recall to replace the fuel injectors and loom as they have been known to fail and leave you stranded by the roadside. The new ones are supposedly much better and reliable and many on here have had theirs done.

Its a total faff.. best using the SD card thats what i did.
