Wheel wobble

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I seem to be getting a strange wheel wobble, on my old wheels I used to run the wobble wasn't good at all, which I thought was down to the cheap universal spacers, so changed then for hub centric ones, however wobble was still there.

So the other day I changed back to my old bbs's but still hasn't soved the problem.

The only things I can think of which might be is that my tracking is out, or that my steering rack arms are loose?

Can anyone help?

Firstly is it at a specific speed and does it get better/worse if you get faster/slower? Also does it change with directional input? Either way start with tracking as checks are normally free, balance, pressure and even wear would be next.

It seems to be bad from about 50-65 ish

And doesn't seem to be better or worse with any movement left to right.

And yeah gunna go get tracking done next week and do my pressures tonight and see what happens.

Thanks

that would seem to suggest balance is out on your wheels

I had the same problem with mine. Turned out one of my tyres had a bad wobble on it. Put new tyres on and it was gone.

To be honest I think my tyres are cheap budget ones. Could be the case.

It could be tyre related but it is more likely balance if it's at a certain speed (that's why I asked). You've probably either knocked a wheel at some stage or lost a weight. As a quick (free) check swap your front and rear wheels over one side at a time, if it disappears then you know which wheel/tyre it is.

It started affecting my car when i got to 50 and above. I had pzeronero on the front but they had served there time. Put contisport 2s on all round. It totally cured the wobble. Hope it helps mate.

i'm also having slight trouble with this. i run hub centric spacers on the front but both of my front wheels were balanced when new tyres were put on them. Only seems to wobble 60mph+?

Done tyre pressures, nothing really changed, so going to swap wheels about once my hand heals again, if not, going down to the garage for balancing and tracking needs doing too.

Thanks

Thanks mate, my tyres are budget as im waiting for new wheels. So if the other 2 ideas dont work then when i get my new wheels i will get a decent set, i normally run bridgestones.

I took my spacers off due to this.

What brand were the spacers and how wide were they?

I took my spacers off due to this.

ahh right, i've got 20mm spacers on the front to get clearance from my caliper. Will just have to put up with it until i can find a decent swap for some other wheels :)

They were just 10mm jobbies from ebay pal.
