advise needed - woke up to flat battery

Featured Replies

So out of nowhere my battery was flat this morning, started it with some jump leads and went for a drive, checked voltage with "torque" app and it was 14.1v. Started it a few times once pulled up.

Left it standing for an hour and the battery has drained again.

I have checked all the lights (boot/glovebox etc) and all are turning off.

Any ideas???

You could check the voltage of the battery when engine turned off.

try fuses one by one and see if the reading changes

Gonna try it, just phoning round family and friends seeing if anyone has a multimeter.

Battery is out now and on charge, hoping it holds.

but when I took it out I removed the battery holder to check for loose/broken wires and found this sitting under there

part number 1h0 845 125

a quick google search came up with "spacer"

any ideas where it belongs

you wouldn't have an amp in the boot would you by any chance. A few times on here people have had their amps wired up to a permanent live causing battery drain issues. Just a thought

That is supposed to be under the scuttle panel below the windscreen. Probably meant to hold windscreen from moving when glue is curing..

So I can chuck it in the bin then?

I think you can get a multimeter for about a fiver

Below the windscreen is only place I've seen it so I wouldn't worry about it...

The battery itself might simply be dead/dying.

My money is also on the battery being dead, especially if its still the original one.

they do tend to just go.

The magic eye thing is totally black :( even while charging

Does anybody know how much a replacement battery from halfords is using their trade card?

Decent one for £50?? Never bought one from there, but when I replaced mine with a decent Varta one, I don't recall it being any more than £50.

Cheers mate.

When I go to halfords tomorrow I will try get current discount price for all three of there 096 batteries.

The battery on SWMBO's Leon went just after Christmas, but the magic eye thing looked OK. I got a very good price from TPS for an OEM battery, cheaper than ECP with the Briskoda discount, not much help on a Sunday though.

ECP with the forum discount... Or Tayna or similar if you can wait a couple of days for delivery.
