Tyre Inflation Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am not sure if this is the best section of the Forum to post this question on but I figure that somebody on here will be able to help.

This morning I had the two front tyres change for replacement Continental Tyres as the originals have been on the car since new and have done over 22,500 miles and are getting a bit too close to the tread depth limit of 1.6 mm for my liking.

Anyway, I got Event tyres in to change the tyres at home. The fella phoned me prior to coming over and fitted the new tyres for me. I have to say the service I received was fantastic and I would thoroughly recommend them.

Having had the tyres fitted the tyre pressures were checked and found to be all at the correct pressures for the car and everything seemed in order.

Having driven the car for a bit this afternoon the tyre inflation warning light has come on. I have since checked the pressures again and they are absolutely fine.

If the warning light something to be worried about? Has anyone else had this issue before? Can I wait until it goes in for its second service in two weeks time for the warning light to be reset?

Any answers/help will be gratefully received.

Thanks for looking

Regards

Mark

If you look in the handbook there is a procedure for resetting it. It will be along the lines of turn the ignition on and hold the button down for a few seconds.

The system doesn't monitor the pressure, it counts the number of turns of the wheels and calculates if the tyre diameter is getting smaller (more turns of the wheel for a given distance) as it would do if the tyre is losing pressure. New tyres will have a larger diameter than worn tyres, hence the need for the system requiring a reset after tyre replacement.

I had the same when I replaced my front a few months ago. Simply reset, as detailed in handbook & this will reset the TPM.

Job done

Out of interest, what would happen if you were to fit lower or different profile tyres, would the light reset itself ok due to the different rolling circumference?

Turn Engine on, press and hold the TPM till it goes " BING "

I guess it "learns" the circumference once its reset, but I could be wrong

I think it's a fairly simple system that just monitors the rotation of each wheel and shouts when there's a large enough difference between one or more wheels.

So it doesn't need to know any actual sizes, it's just a rotation counter.
