EA211 1.2TSI engine?

Featured Replies

That's a fair point.

Wonder if Lee at Preston Motors has any info on what engines are being fitted? ;-) He might be better placed than us to find out from SkodaUK at least!

Honestly I am really surprised if this really is the EA211 engine already. I knew it was rumored to come to the Rapid at some point, but not read anything about this anywhere (even on Czech sites)

Are we sure they haven't just changed the engine bay layout slightly on the old engine or something?

They couldn't have accidentally put in the new engine could they? :D

Thing is, if they're going to be fitting EA211's to the Rapid, does this mean they'll be doing likewise to the Fabia II's, Yeti's that are still being produced etc?

Are you/they sure it wasn't an HTP AdLav? The only S Spec Rapid TSI is the 86PS one.

HTP:

"Old" TSI:

Why would anyone buy the HTP :( I'd imagine you'd gain the £800 list price difference back well within a 3 year ownership period on fuel economy alone (I'm on course to save around £500/year compared to my Fabia's 40mpg) never mind road tax :/

Ill have a look later lol :)

Sorry chaps you'll have to wait til tomorrow as I got picked up for work today.

Not driving to Skoda to take a picture of an engine in rush hour traffic

Do we have an answer on this yet?

Sorry, busy at work so my "popping down to Skoda" time has been limited.

On the plus side, it's saved me a fortune! :D

As above - busy and not been driving to work so not near the dealer!

I too am interested in this. Had a quick gander on ETKA this morning and these are the engine codes it returned, anyone know if they are EA211?

I do wonder if its something related to the Greentec models as another poster mentioned.

From the list at here it's hard to tell but none of those codes look like EA211 to me.

Of course, it's Wikipedia, so the accuracy is subject to debate :-)

Well I did try Preston Motors, but they have a couple of TDI models in and the first non-diesel ordered is mine...

So it looks like the first 1.2tsi they'll see is mine in four weeks.

Game over for me then! :D

Find it interesting how there seem to be masses of diesel Rapids registered compared to the petrols, yet most of us on here have the 1.2 TSI!

Toledo is even worse for this, up until a few weeks ago there weren't even any petrols in the UK as all the demos and pre-reg cars were diesel.

Rapid appeals to the fleet market, I'd expect to see a lot of taxi ones around in a few years.

Fleet buyers tend to go for diesel.

Fleet buyers tend to not use forums. :)

I don't expect it to be popular on the fleet market because they didn't get the 1.6 TDI down to 99g/ km for CO2 emissions. An Octavia or Golf with the lower emissions and better CO2 (along with higher residuals) will prove more popular here. Having said that I suspect we will see them used as taxis/ minicabs.

To be fair with the mileage I do a 1.6 CR would have been a good option for me but given the deal I got on this one it would have taken a pretty long time to claw back the money comparatively.

59 mpg on a long run was outstanding, wonder what the Diesel would have done.

The 99kg limit is handy around here for two reasons.

No VED and no congestion charge.

Paying VED at £20 is no hardship and any registered private hire vehicle is exempt from congestion charge no matter what engine or polution level it has.

The Golf and the Octavia are too expensive IMO and getting too big.

Sure you'll see some around, just like you see Superbs doing cabbing now, but the market loved the mk1 and 2 Octavia and the Rapid is more close to them in terms of size than the Octavia 3.

It's not just that, 99g makes a big difference to company car tax rates!

Sorry, I was focussing on the private hire industry, not company car, as that's what I do.

Incidentally (and in response to the second half of your previous post) took out a new Octavia Estate 1.6 TDI DSG for a test drive today. Was surprised that it didn't really seem that much bigger inside compared to the Rapid, both in terms of passenger and boot space. Just a bit wider really. Decent car though and very nice quality interior if a little expensive.

Really?! I must have test driven the wrong cars then  I thought the rear legroom was much better in the Octavia (confirmed by my daughter as she was in the rear for the test drives) and the Octavia cabin was certainly wider without doubt. The Octy came across as bigger/longer on the drive as it seemed to 'settle' better at higher speed. Still think the boot on the Rapid is excellent for the class of car. :)
