Fabia Greenline, exempt from congestion charges, how does this work?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I read somewhere that the Skoda Greenline doesn't have to pay congestion charges (because it's emissions are under 100mg/s). Do you have to apply or register somewhere for this to be the case?

Also, I take it it's only the London congestion charge it's exempt from. Toll roads and fees such as the Dartford crossing still apply, right? Many thanks.

Yes, it's only excempt from the London Congestion Charge.

All other tolls and regulations apply.

You need to register the vehicle with TFL, which you can do here:

http://www.tfl.gov.u...reener_vehicles

It's quite easy to do.

Fill in the form and send it to them, you get a letter back confirming you are free to use the zone.

The application needs to be renewed every year.

If you read further in to the T's & C's and upcoming changes, the g/KM will be changing from (IIRC July) to <75 g/KM.

Cars registered before the end of June will be given a 3 year 'sunset period' but once this runs out the car will then not be exempt.

As it stands, amd as far as I know, no petrol or diesel cars are coming out under the new 75 ruling.

Hope that helps.

As Lee said, you need to get in quickly before any planned changes.

They've found the 100g/km limit too high because cars have been tailored to beat the 100g/km figure due to the free VED rules.

Thanks guys. I'll do that today! I didn't realise they're lowering the band. Does that mean they might shift the road tax one as well so that only cars under 75 will have to pay nothing?

Having seen the way the company car BIK values are changing over the next couple of years, then yes.

Who knows what the Government will do? As it stands the cars are still £0 per year, what happens next year is anyones guess, even if it did go up to £20 or £30 per year it's not a massive outlay unless your running a fleet cars.

Plus if the government bottle it, it'll only apply from that date.

Like the high band that's now £490, which only applies from March 2006 when it was introduced.

So anything could happen! :D

You still have to pay TFL £10 per year to register for the discount -so they'll get something out of you one way or the other!

I must say that I've found myself driving around during the enforcement hours more than I would have expected: Normally I start work before the charging period starts and finish after it finishes. However I am doing a fair bit of overtime outside my normal hours (within the charging period) and it's saving me several hundred pounds per year.

Thanks for that, I didn't know that there was a petrol under 75 - you learn something every day.

BUT it is a Toyota and will no doubt have to go back every few months for numerous safety recall issues :o;)

Small capacity hybrids or electric seems the way once the new ruls come in.
