I've a 2010 vRS and manufactured probably late 2009. Can't seems to find the manufacturing month from ViN, other than MY10.

How can I check if I've XDS installed in my car?

All facelift cars have it as standard whether petrol or diesel; not like the Golf GTD that didnt come with it until later on

Thanks all. Behind my glovebox indicates: Datum 200911130812.

I guess that's the manufacturing date of that particular parts, which put my car as an end 2009 production.

not quite correct - early FL cars didn't have this, it was introduced build week 45 2009 (November)so the first few months of face lift cars didn't have it.

Wk45 2009 starts on the 12th.

My accessories are labelled 13th Nov, so I'm borderline case.

Anyway that I can be definite if I've XDS installed?

Don't have a vagcom cable with me now, anyway to visually identify from the abs module in the engine bay?

My ABS module is engine bay has this code : 1k0 614 517AT

Does it mean anything?

Here’s what VW had to say about it when they launched it for the Golf GTI Mk6:

For the first time in a Volkswagen, the XDS electronic transverse differential lock is being used. It significantly improves traction and handling properties. Technically speaking, XDS is a functional extension of the electronic limited-slip differential (EDS) integrated in the ESP system.

In fast curve driving, as soon as the innovative electronics detects that the wheel at the inside of the curve on the GTI’s driven front axle is insufficiently loaded, the ESP hydraulics specifically builds up braking pressure at this wheel to restore optimal traction. So XDS acts as a type of transverse differential lock that compensates for the understeering that is typical on front-wheel drive vehicles when driving fast through curves.

The results: Thanks to XDS, driving behavior is significantly more precise and neutral; drivers perceive this as more like the handling characteristics of a car with all-wheel drive than those of front-wheel drive.

Hans-Joachim Stuck: “Beyond the GTI’s already good chassis layout, XDS gives the car an enormous measure of driving stability. And it leads to greater driving enjoyment, since it reduces understeering. Experienced sports car drivers will be much more active underway. Yet, XDS is a very important safety feature for normal drivers too, because they will not experience any unpleasant surprises with the GTI. It simply would no longer press ahead.”

Is it noticeable? Yes, absolutely.

I did 90k miles in my mk5 gti prior to the vrs. It really used to **** me off where a tiny amount of wheel slip would cause the over zealous traction control to chop the power completely - leaving you fuming and making progress jerky and frustrating. It’s a fwd 200bhp car FFS - I EXPECT it to spin its wheels a little once in a while - it does not mean I’m about to crash!

As a result of my petulance I frequently switched the tcs off on the golf - preferring a (driver controlled) temporary loss of traction rather than a computer nanny coming between me and the driving. N.b. if you switch the tcs off, the asr (?) and abs software is still operational so it'll still try and save you if you're really overcooked it.

With my 2010MY Vrs (with XDS) I have never felt the need to switch off the tcs. The light flashes when one of the wheels is losing traction but it is only to show you its braking the wheel that is spinning - it does not cut the power away from you completely like the pre-xds cars did.

Much better solution. Its still no lsd but a million miles better than the clumsy older tc system.

OK, VCDS confirmed I do have XDS installed.

Now that I see the settings, and have the option of Normal, Weak and Strong.

Should I change it to Strong or leave it as it is?

Id leave it alone personally. I know on the Fabia forum it may have contributed to at least one steering rack failure.
