1Z0 Columbus software upgrade to 3T0 - FL Octy compatibility?

Featured Replies

There's a Columbus in the for sale section at the moment, part no. 1Z0 035 680 A. It's been updated to v2764 - although it says v2760 on the following page. The on-screen part no. following update now reads 3T0 035 680 A. The maps have also been updated to v9.

Would i have any compatibility problems fitting this to my 2010 FL Octy, either due to the age of the unit (1Z0 035 680 A is one of the oldest Columbus units, right?) or due to the software upgrade (buggy behviour?).

Full 7 digit postcode is a must, but the map update should have sorted that. My CAN gateway is revision AD, so I believe I'll avoid battery drain. Satnav and then HDD/memory card for music are the main reasons for purchase, possibly with a view to installing BT at a later date. At £320, this looks like too good an opportunity to miss!

I did a bit more searching and found a thread that says the 3T0 Columbus can work in a pre-FL Octavia provided it's modified, but haven't found anyone with a 1Z0 updated to 3T0 going in an FL. So it's either i) a non issue, ii) bad idea or iii) not been tried. I can't imagine its the last option, surely??

Hi fidgec94

I fitted a Columbus unit in my Octavia 2005. Specs:

Part number: 3T0 035 680

HW: H03

SW: 0904

Manufactured: December 2008

If I remember correctly battery drain issue only affects CAN gateways of K version and below. If you however by chance should experiance trouble there is a firmware patch for Columbus to fix the issue (works for me).

Unit should work fine in your 2010 model, you might however consider upgrading the firmware. Also BT installation would require some VCDS coding.
