Remote Key problem

Featured Replies

I have an 02 reg Fabia, the spare key has never worked on the remote but unlocks with the key.

Now the key that did work seems to have developed a battery eating fault, its got so bad now a battery only lasts a day or so. My question is I have never bought a new key before for any new car and I have seen them on ebay etc very well priced. Can I just get one off ebay and do I have to take it to skoda to pair it up with car.

Hope that makes sense, thanks for your help.

I got my key fob from eBay. it was easy to code into the car myself by putting the new one in the passenger door and the old one in the ignition ( or something along those lines!).

Hi can anyone expand on the above please?

Vindaloo thanks for the link, I get the idea although mine is the older rounder one.

All buttons work fine but I think over 7 or so years off using just one key has taken its toll!

I wonder if the new style flick key would work?

yes the new flip style will work, I supply all my customers with them. None of my suppliers sell the none flip type anymore.

2002 is a change over year for Fabia remotes, the early remote is 1j0959753n & the later remote is 1j0959753ct. If you wanted me to find out which you'd need then i'd need the reg & chassis number.

Once the blade is cut you can sync the remote easily enough yourself using the manual method. As for the new transponder, that needs coding diagnostically using the SKC.

Or you could just use the transponder from your faulty remote

I used this guy for my old octavia which had a round key.

he's got all sorts of different keys (comes with transponder - make sure you get the right one)

and this guy to get it cut (from a photo) Malcolm Dow [[email protected]]

You'll also need transponder as actionman said either new or from your old key.

but you need to programme a new one with vag tacho or equivalent (this will provide the key number)

I got one off ebay for £15-£20

although mine was for a 2000 octavia (don't know if yours would have the same kind of ECU)

or maybe you can just programme your second key - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83Co22N70Gw

Vagtacho etc doesn't give the key number, it gives the pin code, AKA SKC( secuity key code)

The key number is the cutting profile for the blade.

If you didn't want to buy vagtacho & do it yourself then you can easily find somebody cheaper than the dealers. I'm usually half price of dealers with local customers, can still beat them even with traveling a bit further
