Throttle problem

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have a Fabia Bohemima 1.4tdi on an 07 plate . Its one of the last of the old shape fabia . I have a problem with the throttle not returning to idle unless I put my toe under the pedal . Its a bit of an intermitant fault and not showing up on any of the dianostics . It has this fault when I first had the car from new ,they changed something but the main dealers wouldn't tell what they had changed and its been ok till about 8 months ago . Mostly it will sit at about 1300 to 1400rpm till I pull the pedal up . Particulay in town its getting to be a nuisance . Sure the garage just thinks I am been a bit of a daft female to be honest as its not showing a fault .

Is there any reason why the garage does not just look at the pedal see what is required,

then order and fit the part.

No reason why a worn spring or similar should show by plugging in to a diagnostic reader.

They were telling me it was probably the EGR I think cleaning itself , but from what I know having googled then the EGR cleans at 1000rpm and they didn't want to fit a new part if it wasn't the fault of the pedal which because it wasn't showing a fault couldn't be the pedal

Are there any parts of the pedal that are replaceable rather than the whole pedal

Lana

my vrs did this, against all advice (found after the time) i gave the pedal pivot a short blast of wd40 and worked it in (engine off and a little dance on the pedal) and it was fine till i sold it 12 months ish later

It is so embarrassing i used to have music on at traffic lights and wonder why everyone flew off the lights next to me

might fix it

Might blow it up .....

The pedal is showing a fault.

The clue to that is you are using your toe to pull it up and reduce the revs.

Maybe tell the Highly Trained Technician to pull up his/her socks,

put the Diagnostic tool away and use some common sense and stop being a tool.

Thanks guys  . Youre about right there George , your comment did make me smile , common sense seems to be very much a thing of the past . I will tell them to get a pedal ordered up unless you could recommend somewhere I could buy a pedal and get them to fit .

In the mean time will try a bit of WD , kill or cure ....

Thanks again

Lana

Hopefully a 'Lube' will do,

or adjustment/slackening off. & no new parts are required.

I am not a WD40 fan as it can leave parts drier of lubrication than before it was used.

(good as a water dispersant & a quick fix, but it is not oil/grease.)

Maintenance/chain spray or Oil, Grease or similar is preferable.

(& Rubber Grease on rubber.)

This is a known issue on any fly by wire throttle pedal. If it acts up like yours then it needs replacing as the internal spring is either broken or worn out. Lube may help in the short term but won't fix the actual problem, but is equally likely to kill the pedal if it leaks into the electronics. The pedal unit has no serviceable user parts. Your engine revving is not the egr cleaning itself. They don't do that. Sounds like you should maybe consider changing your dealer to one who takes you seriously and knows what he or she is talking about. Good luck on that and let us know what you experience.

Is it a big/expensive job to change the fly by throttle?

Hello Jaxx, no it's easy to do and the cost is not too horendous. The last price I had for the MK1 version throttle pedal was £74 plus VAT. Then of course there is the labour to fit and calibrate. There are two versions of the pedal and I believe it will be different for the Mk2 Fabia. I think it's a half hour job in total but you'd need to check that one as I don't tech on Skoda's.

Hi,

An update to this post

I have recently had the pedal changed and success , no longer need to put my toe under to bring it back to idle

The cost was £98.00 including the vat and £20.00 labour to fit . As the new pedal did not require coding to the car my local garage did the work.

Thanks again guys for the input

Regards

Lana

Spendid Lana, well done. Glad it's fixed.
