Oil Warning Light- Not Sensor

Featured Replies

Hello all,

The oil warning light on my Fabia 1.4 mpi (AQW) keeps coming on from about 15 minutes into the journey and intermittently from there onwards. It seems to occur when accelerating from a stand still or at low revs and then clears if revved for a short while.

It is not the sensor as I have changed that although the wire connection does look a bit dodgy.

It may also be worth noting I changed the timing chain the a few weeks ago (S took oil pump and drive gear off) although there was a couple of weeks gap between doing that and the problem arising.

Any help/advice appreciated.

dont want to sound funny but there is plenty oil in the car isnt there ?

Yes there is - but equally not too much.

Is it the oil level or pressure warning?

Just three bleeps and the red oil icon on the dash- same as I've had in the past when I've had to replace the pressure sensor

First thing to do is to check the wiring which you say looks dodgy. An intermittent open-circuit will 'look' the same to the warning circuitry as a real low pressure level.

Got a multimeter? If not borrow one, anything that will measure dc volts will do.

Unplug the wire from the sensor, put the black meter probe on some unpainted metal engine part, put the red probe in the connector that you have unplugged from the sensor.

Switch ignition on. Should read either 5V or 12V, a constant voltage anyway. Now wiggle the wire about and see if this voltage goes away. The point where the wire comes out of the connector housing is probably the most likely area for the wire to have fatigued and broken within the insulation.
