Hi all,

A while ago I made the mistake of playing with the ominous byte 18, ever since then it's been a bit screwy.

I've got ADL and if I unlock the car @ night the lights come on as they should but if I get in and turn the ignition on when the main lights come on I get a bulb warning which comes back to a tail light each side.

However if I unlock the car and let the lights go out and then turn the ignition on I get no bulb warning.

To add to that recently I fitted footwell lights that work okay apart from channel 35 in adaption errors and I cannot adjust the brightness when the ignition is on. (no maxidot yet)

Also even with the relevant coding changes my LED licence plate lights still throw up a bulb warning.

So I've come to the conclusion I broke the CECM and want to replace it, all the coding I'm good on apart from byte 18.

If I buy a new one 1K0937087 they fit to nearly every VAG car out there.

Anyone got an idea other than getting a dealer to do it via VAS?

First you need to reset or recode byte 18. As for bulb warning I sometimes get for license lights and the conclusion I came is that it hasto do with the cars battery, a bit low on power. I think their was someone on here that had to recode byte 18.

That's the trouble I don't know how to reset the controller or what the correct code/byte 18 is for the Octy due to it being masked out with "00".

As always I combed the site for answers before posting this and came up with nothing.

Have you tried contacting Ross-Tech directly about this? They are usually very helpful and although may take a few attempts you might get your current module coding sorted.

There are only 255 combinations for byte 18 so one of them must be right. Well 254 as its not 00000000 :-)

I appreciate the help, possibly looking at getting a new/used controller. If it's used and doesn't come from an Octy I've gotta find out if it can be programmed by means other than the dealers.

Spot on, that's cheaper than used! Question is now coding, I'm good on every byte bar byte 18

Nick below is a list of the byte 18 codes I have found on the internet, the bits in brown I have added - basically just a quick translation of the codes) Normally I would not recommend anyone changing byte 18, but as you have done so already there is little harm, I cannot guarantee these are correct… but at least for my Superb they were.

As for the LED numberplate lights IIRC the coding only works on MY13 onwards cars.

I tried every code possible and still no cigar!

 

Anyway's the controller is being replaced next week.

Nah, I meant all Skoda codes

I was just told to try the combination    C0  (C and zero)

 

Was also informed that your not the first to have the ECU fail after messing with it on byte-18

Yeah I think the controller is faulty when it comes to external lighting so on Tuesday it will be replaced and factory coded, so I'll have some coding to do Tuesday afternoon.
