I have a VRs with a BLT engine and am considering removing the inlet manifold to clean it out.

Questions:

• is it a straight forward job?
  
• will I have to disturb the exhaust manifold?
  
• what is the best method to clean out the muck?

It's a bit fiddly getting the intake off with the turbo in place, but with the right socket/ratchet, should be possible. Getting the lower of the 3 EGR to manifold bolts is a pain too.

Best method is FIRE!

I found it a real pain in the arse to the point where I gave up. I was short on time though. I just couldn't crack the bolts on the EGR cooler pipework.

If you can get all the bolts undone then it is a straight forward job. Removing the black plastic intake pipe will give you a lot more room
