How much difference did a remap/tuning box make to your insurance?

Featured Replies

As the above question really?

How much difference did a remap or tuning box make to your insurance? Please list remap/box/type of box and insurance company if possible please

Im 23 with a revo stage 1 on a vrs cost me £20 extra on elephant website. Went with sky insurance for second year who price matched the offer from elephant £594 for a year :-)

I considered mapping my TDI 105 4x4 last year. I'm paying £200 for it standard with Chaucer. It made no difference what Map was used but I was quoted £300 with a 20% increase and £560 with a 40% increase.

I could have insured a mapped VRS with 240HP for less than a 4x4 mapped to 145 as the % HP increase was much less.

What someone else pays isn't really going to help you though?

Knowing the difference between std and none std will help me decide if its an avenue worth progressing.

The only way to really tell is call your own insurer and see what numbers randomly come up when they spin the wheel.

The difference is going to vary wildly between insurers..

Right rang Admiral, to take me upto the end of the policy in Jan, for 0 to 10% extra hp £18 and for 11 to 25% extra hp £60.

Impressed with 18 quid not so with £60

I'd say both are a good deal.

When I had a remapped vrs it cost me approx 50 percent more with admiral over standard But that was a couple of years ago

Hi which remap did you get and would you recommend it? 105 ponies under the hood just isn't enough!

I didn't :(

I just couldn't really justify £560 a year (extra £360) to map it. Thats £250 more than I pay for the other car that has no roof and is limited to 155mph.

Would have gone for the shark Map had I gone ahead. I do a fair bit of towing and I'd not want any more torque at less than 2000k rpm than I have now as I want to take care of the dmf as much as possible, I think Shark would have been the best for this.

The 105pd in the 4x4 is pretty much all over by 3250rpm and it is slooooow. My old 110 Mk1 was much faster solo but strangely was much slower with a heavy boat on the back, the low gearing on the 4x4 works really well for towing.

Mark.
