And suddently there was no sound!?

Featured Replies

Hello!

My girlfriend took the ride (2006 Skoda Octavia 2.0 FSI Elegance) out for a spin. When she came back after a quit stop at the store she told me that there was no sound in the stereo. The stereo works fine, but there is no sound on neither the CD or the radio. Just like that, after a quick stop and when she came back there was no sound.

Anyone now what the fault can be? Or does it sounds like it hopeless and a new stereo should be bought? Can it be a problem with the amp, as i can understand i located under the driver's seat?

Is it a 'Stream MP3' headunit?

If so leave the ignition switched off for a while then try it again. You may find it will start working again, they do this from time to time!

Don't think it's a stream headunit, atleast there is no text on the stereo that says it...Only says Skoda Audience. Should there be a text located on the device that tells me if it is a Stream Headunit?

also, there have been over a month since it broked...haven't had the time to look in to it.

If it says 'Audience' then that's the model you've got, rather than a Stream. Nevertheless try leaving the ignition off for a while and see if it comes back to normal again, the Audience may suffer from the same fault.

So, Ingnition off and the stereo on?

No, just switch everything off completely, then try it again in a couple of minutes.

Ah, well that does sound more terminal then! If you've got the 12 speaker setup there should be a seperate amp under the seat which may be the culprit. Otherwise the amp is built into the headunit.

That's bad. Don't know what speaker setup i have though :/ but it would surpise me if it is a 12 speaker setup. And as you can see, my knowledge in cars is zero. What's standard for my car?

For an Elegance spec the standard would have been a Stream or Stream MP3 (both with 8 speakers) depending on the model year. I think yours must have had an upgrade as the Audience was an option on certain models at that time. ISTR the Audience could be specified with either the normal 8 speakers or further upgraded to 12 speakers with an extra amp.

It looks like it's the AMP that's broken...Is it possible to add a new NOT original AMP, a cheaper AMP.? Or has it have to be a original Skoda AMP?

Its will be a lot of work putting a non skoda amp in. You'd need to find a switched live, run a live from the battery and find an earth. Then find a way of wiring up phonos and the speaker wire

Just a thought, might work.

Had you tried removing the fuse that controls the feed to the radio or disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then putting it back.

Mine is a Bolero unit that had the same problems as you and it cured it. Gave it a reboot just like a computer.

They used to go 'pop' then go off until your restarted the engine.

I think there was a software fix back in about 2008/9. Mine hasn't done it since about then.

The bring an update to the subject - i haven't fixed the radio yet, *shame pillow*

But i talked to the local car stereo repairman and he said "if there are an built in amp in the stereo they can hook up the stereo directly to the speakers or connect an aftermarket step(?) to it."

The reason i'm asking is that he was not sure if this would work and i don't want to put money to it for nothing.

My question is: Is there an built in amp in the stereo? Will this solution solve the problem? Or do i really have to buy a new amp, because i rather not want to go there.
