New style MOT certificate

Featured Replies

Car got it's mot yesterday, and yes it passed. to start with i was never keen on the new style slip that you got but have seen the light. Two parts that i like alot are the section's that piont out defects on the car but not enough to fail (printed on). the second bit is the past mot milages are also on the slip. now my cars is 5yrs old and below average miles i now have it in black and white to prove the milage come time to sell along with the service stamps. It definatily has to be a huge plus to people buying second hand cars too, as the garage cant hide any defects.

Yeah would be better if it wasnt on an a4 sheet of paper

Better if it looked a bit more authentic like the old one and maybe with the expiry sticker like the old one

Whenever you bought a car is the past the advisory sheet was usually binned and that was from garages too

Cost. A4 is the most common paper-size in the UK/Europe.

Plus, if I recall correctly, you can download it from the website too and print it on any old printer, you only need the information from the V5 to do this.

As I understand it test centres are under no obligation to provide you with the printed summary as you can do it yourself online? That's what I was told when I had my Fabia tested anyway.

The savings made by not producing template paper certificates to be printed on are probably quite large.

The true proof of the MOT is the online and database entry, the piece of paper is just a receipt. With the old style certificate there was a box on it to tell whether an advisory had been issued or not, with the plain paper certificate there's really not much to stop an unscrupulous car seller placing a piece of paper over the advisory part and signature, photo copy it and scawl in the signature box.

As far as I know the testing station is still obligated to supply a hard copy of the test result, the only copy that they don't have to supply to the vehicle presenter is a copy of the diesel smoke test result.

These new certificates are more expensive for the testing station to print.

Which would be pointless as you can read the full history online including all advisories and just make it obvious they're trying to cheat you. I've never seen a new style MOT with a car I've bought, as I always just ask for the info to look it up online myself. If they don't provide, I don't buy.

Probably is, I meant it's cheaper for the government, bad wording on my part :-)

The latest version is great for my job as most people don't know how many miles they do a year when I ask them. The last change happened a few months ago from what I can tell. The first of the plain white A4 certificates didn't have the mileage log on, but the latest ones do.
