Safe mode

Featured Replies

Hi

Have done a search but cant find an answer, mk1 03 vrs stereo in safe i dont have the code but its the original stereo for the car I replaced it with aftermarket but now have re-fitted the original.

So is there any way i can get it out of safe mode without the code ? or where can i get the code?. I have tried my local dealers but its always you need to bring it to us and want £25!.

Is this my only option as i dont want to pay unless I have to.

Thanks

Sorry can't help with code

If in your situation though I'd rather buy something like a Beat 175 than pay a dealer £25 to unlock the naff factory unit

- I've fitted 3 of these recently - excellent value for money

Is anyone able to retrieve codes with serial no of radio and reg no???/

How long have you left it turned on for? When I re-fitted mine it took a while before the car recognized the stereo and it started working, that's if it is the original though.

It is the original, havent really left it on for long at all, ill try it and see what happens.

The car will not remember the code for an aftermarket or other replacement unit. The permanent live keeps a feed to the stereo so it does not prompt for the code unless the power has been interrupted. The ECU will always carry the information for the original unit. You can find this code with a standard VAG OBDII reader, or any laptop with VAGcom.

I'm quite shocked your dealer would want to charge you for finding out the code for the original which your car will not forget. I fact I think they deserve a slap.

Hope this might help?

If its the original it should sync in with the dash panel.

Give it time

I bought a second hand car (not Skoda) as third owner and it did not have the radio code. I telephoned that garage that originally supplied the car and, after checking that I now owned it, looked up the code in their records and gave it me by phone at no charge.

It is worth asking. The supplying dealer's name and phone number are stamped in the car handbook.

Well visited the local skoda dealer who unlocked my radio and supplied me with the code should it happen again, charged £24 but on the upside was a recall on the car for ignition coil so that was replaced along with a brake light bulb free of charge, so not too bad after all!

If its the radio originally from that car the ecu stores the code turn egnition on and leave it on for a bit, worked on my octavia
