1500 km running in !!!

Featured Replies

After two month of waiting, my new Skoda Oktavia has arrived. The first impression was "wow, it's looking so good". I mean it's magic black, with 16" alloys, audience (6 mp3-cds), maxi-dot, multifunction wheel, ....

Right now I have a dilema, some people told me that the first 1500 km are very important for the life of the car (no more 3000 rpm), and others told me that the engine was running in factory, so I can drive it normally. And, other problem is that in the first 1500 km, the PD engine "eat" oil (someone from the service told me), is that true ?

At all, the new Skoda Oktavia II is the perfect car for me and I have no comments. My advise is "Enjoy your car !!!".

Hey dude, where are you located? You're the only person in here other than myself I've seen quote in 'Kms' rather than 'miles'.

From what I've heard, it's true, the first 1,500kms need a run-in, don't rev over 4,000RPM for petrol cars. But servicing isn't supposed to happen until about 15,000kms. This is what I've heard about the new Skoda cars. You should check with your dealer.

Yes check the oil on a regular basis , assume you have the Diesel Pd , found with mine that i used 1 litre in the first 10k miles , and was checking weekly , just to make sure they do use a fair bit in the early period and then settle down to normal . Also make sure you use the correct oil in is more expensive than normal but get some from the dealer to the right spec to use for these first 5 k miles about 1 litre top up bottle . Do a search on her for Running In , it is recommended , i found myself keeping to below 3k revs , do not labour engine , get in to right gear for revs , vary speed , did a few long runs 50 miles plus to settle it in over the first 750 miles ,.

I've done 1300miles in its first week and I tried to keep it to 3-4000 revs and not let the engine labour.I was told by dealer it was more important to vary yoUr speeds and bed the brakes in so Occasional full throttle OK(onlydone this after 800 miles though). Also if i went by motorway I returned using A or B Roads.
