DPF's Some scary reading

Featured Replies

This makes an interesting read, go to the later part of the article "What can the DPF not do, and does it have negative repercussions?"

Sounds like more environmental & health time bombs

I always had a suspicion that DPFs increase CO2 emissions as they burn off extra carbon matter from the exhaust (as well as increasing fuel consumption). So, as they make large particles into smaller ones too, DPFs are more likely to lead to cancer? Fight cancer and global warming, cut out your DPF :)

I've boycotted modern diesels. DPF is for pussies. Unless it can run on used frying oil from McDonalds, its a **** car.

Does that derogatory comment also apply if it is lubricated with cooking oil instead like this?

Jesus Christ on a bicycle! That guy is a moron. I honestly have no words for it. Using it for fuel is one thing, but motor oil?

Also, that post should be considered tongue in cheek. I did not intend to insult anyone with it.

I'm not a fan of DPF's but I do notice that the article seems to be talking about much older and larger DPF systems for commercial vehicles and checking the references they're all over a decade old whereas even the older DPF systems on the Skodas are newer never mind the newer more advanced versions on the CR engines which do appear to work better.

Also, it appears to emanate from a Canadian inner city "ecological" pressure group explicitly pushing urban electric trolley bus systems, so may not be supplying entirely balanced information and points of view.
