Rear wiper and radiator fans not working

Featured Replies

Ok, took some doing but finally got these two annoyances sorted.

Rear wiper, just stopped working and no motor sounds. Looked at it last week and couldn't see any water ingress or corrosion. Looked at it again today and where I was wiggling the wiper arm about (gently - not!) I heard something drop? Removed the boot lining and in the bottom of the hatch was the end cap off the wiper motor??? No wonder it didn't work. Placed it back on and it came to life so shut off and took at it with hammer, got it on but not 100% straight so removed motor to get better access (for the hammer :D) and voila! One fixed rear wiper motor, hammered the lugs over a it further to stop them popping out again. I like it when you can use a hammer to fix an electrical problem :D

Radiator fans have been a issue for months and had a couple of instances of mild overheating, so last month I changed the fans (what a PITA that job is - remove front of car change fan rebuild front of car, simples). Anyway had another instance of overheating dropping swmbo to work in traffic this week so had another look at it a finally found the culprit. One of the fuses on top of the battery had the smallest bit of corrosion you have ever seen, from the top they all looked fine, only on removal was it visible. 5 mins with some sand paper and all working again. Wish I had found that last month before changing the fans :-(

So if anyone out there has problems with either of these things, before changing anything, get the hammer out and whack some 5h!t and check allllllllll the fuses. :D HTH Karl
