Petrol smell

Featured Replies

Morning.

I've had my car a week now. This morning I started the car, put the air con on and a smell of fuel came through. It seems it only does it on cold start. I've noticed a smell of petrol under the engine cover by I thought this was just normal due to the injectors etc? Does anyone else have this issue?

It shouldn't do that! There is probably a small fuel leak somewhere that accumulates while the car is standing. That is why you get it worst on a cold start as it evaporates and gets pulled through the ventilation.

Common cause of this is perished flexible fuel lines. Check for cracks or general brittleness, and replace any suspect lines.

No didn't think it was normal - ill pull the cover off tomorrow evening when the car has been stood all day and see what I can find!

Also - thanks for the replys :)

vRS TFSI?

Charcoal fuel filter thingy? Does it not get filled with petrol if you overfill at the pump?

Just a suggestion.

Certainly not normal.

Could you put some blotting paper under the car? The petrol will evaporate but should still leave a mark on the paper showing up drips.

Yeah it's a tfsi....

Not thought of blotting paper actually. I've not had time to have a proper look yet so it could be something really simple.

Fuel pressure swith that screws into the pump is a common failure on these, the fuel leaks into it. Check that first.
