New superb is doing fine 13 days on from purchase, loving the drive and comfort. As expected Skoda snobs are having their heads turned.

I have lept from a 13 year old Toyota to a brand new Elegance and the learning curve is fairly steep.

There are a few teething questions I have, if anyone can help. I would go to the dealer but I already think I know more than them, I only read human so the manual is not much help (it would be nice if it contained not just the how but the what and why e.g. what is it and why should I spend time configuring it - Skoda, if you read this, some sort of outline guide for the car's functionality would really help here)

  1. Cigarette lighter sockets don't charge my phone, boot 12V supply works fine. Do you need the smoker kit for get these to work or is something mis-wired?
  2. Blue tooth works fine most of the time, though if I switch between spotify and mp3s occasionally it loses itself. Had it where the track cuts out after about 5 seconds, press play again and this repeats. Sometimes it dosn't pick up Spotify at all + no track listing (I guess the latter is to do with the file format).
  3. Should I be able to list artists/albums as well as tracks through bluetooth, or do I need MDI connectivity for that?
  4. 4GB SDHC containing MP3s not recognised by columbus - is there a minimum size card?
  5. Stereo a little tinny, any tips for getting the best out of it? - I have tweaked the tone settings.
  6. How is AUX supposed to work? connected up phone via 3.5mm port on drivers arm rest compartment and AUX not detected on columbus, e.g. option disabled.
  7. Petrol consumption about 350 miles to warning light in mixed driving. Does that seem about right? Do new cars take a while to wear in and become their most efficient? I am driving very steadily.

Thanks for any help on these.

number 4, try formatting the SD card's file system to FAT or FAT32, I read about this only yesterday on here and the chaps SD card was formatted in NTFS. Reformatting solved it.

The sockets on mine work whether the ignition is on or off - nor do I have the smokers pack - check the fuses.

The stereo in mine is the Columbus, I spent ages fiddling with the tone an by and large it's pretty good now. Unusually for me I have quite a lot of bass on, usually it's OK but some tracks (notably Jack Johnson) can be boomy. Terrific spatial separation though, loads of music sounds even better in the car than on my £1500 stereo in the house!

Hope you enjoy the car as much as I enjoy mine.

Cheers leepatrick01, you're a star, that's fixed it. I now have music on the HDD which sounds better quality than the bluetooth (in my imagination at least).

Had a bit of a RTFM half hour. Figured out point 6, AUX switched on through the settings. Haven't tested with phone yet but think that should be it.

Feel a bit happier now

Huw, thanks for the feedback, I am a car luddite, how would I know which fuse is the problem (or is this another case of RTFM ).

Will fiddle with tone a little more to see if I can get more improvement. Bass already high.

Point 7. Not sure what engine you have. But my 170 started at about 35-37mpg and now after 7000 miles is 42-45mpg. Used to measure with real miles and fuel refill - but for once the consumption readout is bang on, which it wasn't on previous cars. Concur on point 1 that cigar lighter is on whole time. 12v USB Chargers vary though and some 300mA are really pretty ineffective. Belkin have a 2A USB charger with the added benefit of an indicator light so you can tell it is working.

BrockySuperb, interesting what you say about the fuel consumption for diesel. I have a 1.8 TSi petrol. I hope that is the general experience with petrol as well as diesel, fuel consumption improving after the first few thousand miles. Anyone?

Well that's what has happened to me too (As is yours, mine is a 1.8 TSi). Started off (almost a year ago from new) at about 35mpg. I have never changed the computer and have done just over 7000 miles. The average fuel consumption since new is now showing 41.7mpg.

Which, as I'm sure you'll agree, isn't so bad for a petrol automatic. I've been pleased with the whole Skoda experience.

350 miles sounds about right. It should improve slightly. I've got 35 mpg over 9000 miles with an average speed of 33 mph. I'm not always particularly light-footed.

When the refuel message/light comes on you have 15 litres left in the tank (10 litres left until it hits the reserve (which is another 5 litres)).

Albie, the usb may not be strong enough to charge your phone, usb is limited in power output and some phones and tablets draw more than the socket can supply,

About your fuel consumption I'd say it's about spot on tbh for the car engine combo, sad thing is if you'd bought a 3.6 version you'd be getting 600 miles per tank now, rotfl

Don't take that personally btw I'm digging at the dinlo's in another thread deluding themselves they bought an F1 car with diesel economy.

Taking the car in tomorrow to get the lighter sockets sorted. I would no more trust myself in a car fuse box than a bull in the proverbial china shop.

I run a 16Gb SD card in columbus and ok. Load albums and then add a sinle mp3 track.

Load SD card, switch on and select media. Columbus will pick up the single track, and you can then scroll trough all albums. Dunno why it does this but mine would not detect albums until I loaded single track. All works fine until card is removed. When replaced it picks up single track again and off u go!

Hope this works for you.

It's max 32gb SDHC card is it not? Will try that trick, thanks Napier.

No thread hijacking please.

Skoda dealer fixed the lighter socket issue, was a fuse as suggested by Huw. Car only 2 weeks old so they didn't quibble about cost!
