I copied my music folders direct from iTunes to a 16gb sd card. got a 64gb card on order. Most album art is showing but some isn't. Not sure why yet - Think it might be to do with how large the images are or whether the music was downloaded as opposed to ripped from cd, will try and work it out and let you know. Full control though over the music though from unit or steering wheel, artist as a folder, then albums, then tracks as sub folders. Hope this helps.

Thanks Lees.

Mine wasn't showing for any playlist (M3U file) I created...I found a decent free tagging program and re-imported the art work and et voila..the program imports the cover art into the mp3 file..so much so that you don't need to copy any graphics files over to the SD card. The art work was showing when I played the track normally but not when it was part of a playlist....doing this cured my problem. You also have to keep the album art file size down...500 x 500 is about the max I've found that will work.

Thanks Ninjoid....I know i can find an answer here.

I have a SD card in mine (just the bolero) and album art show up fine - I ripped all my cds using windows media player (for whole albums) but created compilation folders and used TagSanner (http://download.cnet.com/TagScanner/3000-2141_4-10056506.html) to add the art /change the the mp3 tags to ensure the titles/artist displayed how I wanted them - worked a treat. A 16GB card hold more than enough music!

Seems to me it's my iTunes library, some album art isn't tagged to the album only the tracks, when I paste art to album it shows in car, so time to sort my iTunes library artwork.

This is because you did not pay attention to little things. Better later than never.

I've been looking into this too. I think that if the album was imported after a certain version of iTunes then the album art is embedded as a single pic and linked to each track via a hidden dat file to reduce space on disk. Do you also end up with a load of extra unreadable tracks with the same name but with a dot at the front too cos that's what I have. Apparently a program called Blue Harvest can strip out the Apple hidden files, but I haven't tried it yet..... can't face having to rejig my whole iTunes library again!

  • 5 months later...

I still cannot see Art Work on my Bolero Unit, all I see is an icon of the source I am using, for example an icon of an SD Card...

I am really struggling with this, I have downloaded 'TAG SCANNER' imported (Dragged) my albums into it, I have also dragged and dropped art work into the box available at the bottom right of the page. The files are saves as MP3 and I have even added the picture fie to the relative Album Folder as a JPG. I am still trying to get this to work and am only copying ONE album onto my USB or SD until I solve this to save confusion (To myself mainly!!!). And I am only trying either the USB or SD Card at any one time, I do not have both connected, but to no avail...

I have tried a USB stick, SD Card and Streaming from my SAMSUNG Galaxy Ace, but still no album art work. I am sure it must be something simple I am missing, but I am not familiar with using TAG SCANNER.

Please can someone point out what I may be doing wrong, as i have tried several attempts without any luck!!! :@

Many Thanks.

Hard to be sure why it is not working but what I did was copy the graphic to the box on tag scanner for each track (i know it means that the files are a bit bigger but space is cheap, it takes longer too but you can do multiple selections in tag scanner to speed things up) - I actually just got the image files from the internet - search under the artist etc just copy and paste into the image box on tag scanner.

What you have to do in tag scanner is click the save button (if you exit of click off the track it won't save) it should then save the image file as part of the header for each track - so however you use the track then(album folder/playlist etc) it should always display the artwork.

Some general tips on this, from experience I have had installing wireless home music etc. You need to ensure the ID3 tags are correct and that the album art has been taggged correctly. As a general rule exporting anything which has been tagged by or had album art added via itunes can lead to problems as Apple sofware likes to work with Apple devices not so much with anything else and uses slightly different methods for dealing with ID3 tags etc. The ither issue is the Bolero has some pretty strict limits on the size in terms of memory and pixel dimsension for the album art if it is to display it.

I use a free program called Media Monkey ( http://www.mediamonkey.com/ ) which is very good and use friendly at editing ID3 tags and importing the album art. YOu can import from whatever personal logical file structure you use on the PC/HDD/NAS device you are storing your source music on, it just saves the album art file you import in the relevant album folder as "image.jpg" and offers you the option to remove any old album art associated with the files(s). It also has a nifty search engine to find the art for you based on the existing ID3 tags on the MP3 file(s).

Although Im still waiting for my VRS Id be prepared to wager that if you've imported your music library into Media Monkey using whatever your preferred file structure is, and then taken the time to go through and set all the tags and import the album art correctly (and that album art complies with the file and pixel sizes set out in the user manual) then you can just copy those folders and MP3s directly onto your big 32/64gb SD card and it should work.

I used the mp3tag program suggested above at the weekend. Worked a treat. I plugged in the SD card, highlighted the album tracks and asked it to get the art from Amazon.com. You then just have to check it is the right cover.

Thanks guys for the advice, I finally worked out how to do this using TAGSCANNER, multi selecting songs per album and dragging a picture size no larger than 500 x 500 into the album art box at the bottom right of the screen. But it seems a long winded way of doing this. I did notice that all tagged album art by default was 600 x 600 (Which is too big for the bolero to handle...

How did you 'Ask It' to get the album art from Amazon??? I could not work out how to do this...

Thanks.

I was using a different program. Mp3tag, not tagscanner

iTunes is the devil. It likes to arrange things in a language that only Apple devices can fully interpret. MP3tag is the way to go because it uses bog standard open source coding standards. I do not have my Octy yet, but experienced exactly the same issues within my current car (and for track copied to my PS3). Music imported directly from iTunes had half of the artwork missing, but running my itunes library through mp3tag sorted everything.

I'll try MP3 tag...
