And here it is.  The Duster based Nissan Terrano (and note they are righthand drive having been built in the Indian factory):

I know someone that is currently doing the final testing on the new Nissan Qashqai.  He says the new QQ will be five seater only and that the new X-trail will be the replacement for the QQ+2.  They will be the same car basically.  The QQ will also have the horrid fixed sunroof still and the X-trail will have one that can open.  Peculiar to not just drop the X-trail name completely and have the seven seater just be known as the QQ+2 again...  But then if you call the QQ+2 an X-trail you can charge MORE for it than you could if it was just a QQ+2.  Call my a cynic if you want.   :giggle:

Surely this is just extreme badge engineering?

Will "Some of the people" really pay a lot more money for a Dacia with a Nissan badge? :wonder:

How do you think Audi sold any A2s? How do you sell £30 t-shirts? People will buy the label, no matter what you put it on.

Well it is in fact the other way around.  Most people are already buying a Dacia Duster knowing that it has Renault bits in it.  In some countries it is fact sold as a Renault.  So makes no difference really being sold as a Nissan in other places surely.

Erm...  I had an Audi A2 and it was NOT bought because if its label.  It had rear seats that could be left at home, a sunroof that could open, was very spacious for its size and was made of aluminium giving amazing fuel economy.  Very few people paid the excessive prices Audi charged for something so tiny to just get the badge - it simply did not really make financial sense even if you were a person into "labels".  It was an engineering tour de force many decades ahead of its time.

Fair enough :) I was under the impression if was a Fabia with a welded bonnet and new badge. Statement above retracted.

LOL.  Good.  And no it had a bespoke alluminium body hence it was so expensive.

The Nissan Terrano 'version' of the Duster is not destined for the UK, unless I have misread.

I struggle to see the appeal of the Duster. To my eyes it looks dreadful, particularly the back end (but then it is about to get a facelift so this may change, especially if it does echo the Sandero Stepway). The emissions and mpg are nothing to write home about and they don't come with a free or pre-paid service package so running costs are not great. If you are buying on a budget, get a 3 yr old facelift QQ for £10k, add a three year Warranty Direct warranty and you're away. I understand the allure of a new car, I fall for it myself every time but there are arguably better options if budget is all.

If you visit the Dacia forum for the UK there are a lot of people complaining that other European markets get Romanian built cars whereas the UK gets some models from the Indian factory where build quality is poor.

I loved the A2. Had one for a weekend, way ahead of its time. Amused by the single powerful windscreen wiper that made the light body rock gently from side to side.  :giggle:

Yes the Terrano is for the Indian market only.  It can't compete here at above Duster but below QQ prices...

That was only on the 1999 to 2000 wipers.  After that the floppy wiper was introduced that did not make the car rock side to side.   :giggle:

Yep, that's perfectly acceptable for a car in that price range.

Blimey, I'd almost consider it if the price was right, and it was available of course.

Phew, I was nearly tempted by some of the renderings (those that looked like the Sandero Stepway) but that is almost as disgusting as the original. It is the back end that I just can't get to grips with. Having seen a few on the road it just looks wrong.

Interesting that the Autocar piece says that the FL might not come to the UK!

Eh?  In that article is states:

"The revised car will be coming to the UK in 2016."

FL Duster?  What FL?  It looks 95% as the current Duster complete with the ugly headlights and LEAGUES uglier than the Nissan Terrano shown earlier!

No interior pictures yet but let's hope it looks like the Nissan bar the logos.

From the outside, that's a better looking car than the Yeti IMO.

I'd be surprised if 2016 wasn't a typo instead of 2014.

It seems a little bizarre to announce a facelift and then not put them on sale for two and a half years.

Seems to have lost the huge chrome bit off the boot.

?  The rear looks the same to me as the pre FL...

They are getting quite prolific down here in southernland, seem to be a lot of white ones and I have to admit they don't look tooooo bad. I wouldn't buy one though!

Ooops, must have been in Auto Express, I tend to check the news on a few websites so must have got confused.

As I understand it, it is because the facelift car will be built in Romania and we get Indian built cars. The Indian factory has a poor build quality record compared to Romania and so they probably don't want to complicate matters! The Dacia forum has several posts from people angry because they bought a Dacia having read such good reports from Europe only to receive something that had been botched together in Chennai.

Just take one for a drive, ughhhhhh - I did and bought a Yeti.

That's odd!

I'm sure the three (or so) I've seen have all had the bit with "DUSTER" written on it (just above the numberplate) in chrome.

Maybe it is a cost option (only some take)?
