My first Skoda

Featured Replies

Hi there

I'm Ian and I have just bought my first Skoda, a 3 year old Octavia 1.4 TSi DSG Elegance Estate. I have a left shoulder injury which means I can no longer change gear so needed an automatic. I do not do the mileage for a diesel but didn't want the running costs of a large engined estate (like the Daewoo Nubira 2.0 CDX that I ran a few years ago) so the Skoda fits my needs perfectly. I am selling my Nissan Qashqai which will please my mum as she is only just 5ft tall and has real problems getting into it, as well as my dog as he is having problems jumping into the high boot now that he is older.

My mum ran two Skoda 110L's back in the 1970's and loved them so she is doubly pleased that I have at last bought one for myself. My dad likes Japanese cars so they are running their third Honda Jazz at the moment but I may be able to persude them into a Fabia DSG if they like my Octavia.

I collect my car on Monday from Sittingbourne and am looking forward to getting to know it.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi there, this is my first Skoda experience too, but as I've mostly had VW group cars over the years I don't expect any traumas. Funny you should say that your dad is on his 3rd Jazz, my wife had one 3 years ago and we both think that the seats are the most uncomfortable on a long journey that we've ever had the misfortune to experience (driving across mainland Europe). Apart from that it was otherwise a very good car.

Hi and welcome aboard.

I agree with you about the Jazz Avtur. My parents used to live in Cyprus and had one of the first Jazz's imported onto the island and it was great out there as there is not the opportunity to drive that far so comfort doesn't become an issue. Over here, however, I find the ride very harsh and bumpy. I also dislike the fact that I feel so close to the ground - possibly something to do with the raised driving position of the Qashqai but even the Octavia I test drove on Tuesday felt much higher. They love it however for the space and versatility and it is easy to take to the dump to get rid off all their garden waste!!
