A thanks to Avon tyres, mytyres and ATS

Featured Replies

Bought some Avon IceTouring ST winters late last summer for the Fabia from the on-line mytyres, which were fitted last December.

Noticed when I removed them this April, that the side walls of all four tyres were covered in a maze of small cracks like you might find on old well used tyres. Decided to contact Avon directly for advice and they asked if I could ask the local ATS to do a initial inspection. The guys there seemed more than helpful considering I hadn't purchased the tyres from them and they agreed something was amiss with the tyres.

Avon then arranged for the tyres to be removed from the rims and collected from ATS for factory inspection, which confirmed there was an issue. From there they contacted mytyres, who once they realised the tyres were already with the manufacturer and deemed faulty, quickly sorted a full refund :)

So I'm pleased to say, in my case anyway, getting faulty tyres dealt with is achievable with limited hassle even from an on-line retailer.

Plus a winter of safe and free driving on those tyres :)

This is a new definition of "safe", one with which I have not previously been acquainted.

Still, it's good to see Avon finally admitting that they can't make safe sidewalls, even if it is 30 years later.
