Experiences - 30,000 Miles in 17+ Months in V6 Superb Combi

Featured Replies

My 3.6 V6 4x4 DSG Combi has now covered 30,000 miles in 17 months and 5 days. It has consumed 1,002.25 gallons of fuel (as at last re-fill) and has averaged 29.663 mpg (I expected nearer 25).

It was never going to be a cheap car to run, but it has surprised me.

The front tyres were replaced at 22,000 and the rears are original and still good.

I am on high service intervals and it has had a service at 18,900 mile and consumed 1 Ltr of additional oil.

I have had to pay the eyewatering £460 car tax, but insurance this year was only £250 with hte AA.

Having got the car VAT free the overall costs are more than I would like to pay, but at the time they did not have a 170CR 4x4 DSG, but the engine, cruising and quiet nature of the car make it a joy to drive every time I sit in it.

Problems

1 puncture - not fault of the car

slight ticking noise from right side of car, noticeable at idle only - to be investigated at next service

I'd love to try the new 3.6 as it is a) cleaner CO2 and B) more economilcal. i am intrigued as to how they have achieved this and whether they have compromised the car in any way by messing around with the gearing. Town driving is it's worst feature - fails to get out of 4th.

Would I have another - as I will be close to retirement, most probably not (running costs), but with my driving pattern I would not hesitate to recommend it - it is in all respects Superb.

congrats you were having trouble free experience with your superb enjoy.....superb is really superb

<snip>

Now are you sure about the MPG!!! :giggle:

Glad it's going OK ddyer - you say you'd not consider another (presumably by that I presume a 3.6) but going into retirement would you perhaps move to a 140/170?

Absolutely - a 170 CR 4x4 DSG L&K is top of the list

Everybody please note the OP said 29mpg AVERAGED, that means all types of driving mixed in together to come out at the figure and the figure looks realistic to me because the front tyres did 22k, they wouldn't have had the car been used for town work mainly,

@ OP, my Passat DSG wouldn't go above 4th unless it was doing 40+ mph so nothing wrong there and that ticking could be the dual mass, see if it's louder when it's cold than when it's hot, also put your foot on the brake and select Drive if that shuts it up it's an indication of early wear to the flywheel.

Supurbia, the only reason you post like this is to antagonise and bring this all up again. Give it a rest will you, and go find somewhere else to be an arse please

No actually I posted it to show others that this is a realistic useage mpg report i.e the fella is on the motorway at 50 - 70 mph 75% of the time, if you choose to read it any other way that's down to you mate.

B*ll*cks, the only reason you posted is you have an issue with the mpg owners of V6 have stated and you can't leave it alone. Otherwise you wouldn't have posted.

I'll drop it now, as its only provoking you to post more, and it appears the best policy is to ignore you as you continue with your noble quest to educate the world on fuel efficiency of V6 engines

:) :) :)

If anyone is provoking it's you, now if you really want to go down that road I have £1000 that says you can't ride me around Cambridge and achieve 27mpg soley on urban use in a 3.6 V6 Superb, put up or shut up.

And if people like you didn't lie I wouldn't need to educate anyone would I? the fact you do lie (accidently or on purpose I don't know) means you will drop someone in a hole they weren't looking to step into.

Lets be honest here guys. Anyone thinking of buying a v6 3.6 petrol powered car is unlikely to care that much about fuel efficientcy. Over 10k miles its about £300 extra in fuel if you average only 25 mpg versus 30 mpg. Personally I would find the £450 a year tax harder to stomach.

Thankyou Peanut, but it's important to have real facts

Skoda list the car @ 21mpg urban

My friends here are deluding themselves they are getting 27+ urban, if you could get 27 urban I'm sure Skoda would say so.

I've had 30 years of listening to ***** that always buy the car that does 30% more than official figures say, they also always buy the car that never goes wrong but as they go to my mate for repairs I know differently, latest one of brilliance is the Hyundai i30/40 series, so good that you can eat the clutch plate when you take it out as it's made of chocolate, LUK really means Lindt Uber Kandy btw, these are £650 a shot for the flywheel alone and they aren't lasting long, as an old mate now sadly passed some years ago used to say........isn't it funny how we always seem to get the bad car, funny that isn't it an honest man in a world of bull.

NONE OF THIS IS AIMED AT THE OP BTW.

When have I been lying Superbia?? I have not stated anything about V6 consumption either way. You on the other hand are suddenly the oracle on the Superb II, even though you have never owned one.

You were informed by a number of owners of their actual fuel consumption, yet you choose to ignore them, and now seem to be on a quest to post on everything here. I have £1000 that says you can't stop acting like an arse anytime soon. ;) ;) ;)

Can you at least spell my username properly to start with it's SupUrbia not SupErbia,

You chose to start on me because you chose to back the side of the deluded, V6 petrol engines on the urban cycle struggle to get to 20mpg let alone the claimed by TWO owners of near 30mpg in automatic DSG cars, and that's before we take into account the 4X4 aspect as well which like AC also uses extra fuel and one of those owners being Australian you can bet the AC is on in his car most of the time so go figure on that one,

Basically you don't like what I post because it doesn't fit in with your fanfare I bought a Skoda theme and as for me never owning one, which car do you think the Superb is based on? Golf platform using the Passat parts bin, recognise either of those two models Sherlock?

Basically people who post amazing fuel figures crawl right inside me, I recently asked a fella about his 7 year old 150k 2.4 automatic S80 as I fancied one myself, according to him it does 66mpg cos it's been chipped up to 215bhp from the at the time original 175bhp, yeah right, oh and urban it does 35mpg as well

As for the quest you mention you'll find that other than the two spat threads where I'm wasting my time answering you I'm actually helping others like the tyre one where you've had to stick your shonky in again and try to make me look bad, what are you some sort of middle management guy who thinks he can beat on anyone he's in charge of?

Oh and while we're at it I see you have a 2.0 CR Superb so answer me this, how do you know what a 3.6 is able to do urban if you've never owned one either, I would think with a 4X4 model like yours and stuck in the average in town traffic yours won't do much more than 30mpg either, so there you have it, AVERAGE isn't INSTANT on the MFD, AVERAGE is what the car has worked out over the previous 30 miles,

If anyone is an arse it's you following me about like a prefect.

For the love of God. Please draw a line under this argument about v6 economy, and just meet up in a car park for a fight to sort out your personal differences.
