turbo blown impellar blade snapped and in need advice and a good refurb company

Featured Replies

hi blew my turbo last week been looking at the price for a new one and its shocking!!! I've taking the turbo off from the top (alot easier than i thought as im no mechanic) and upon inspection one of the impeller blades on the intake side of the turbo has snapped off could this have went to my engine? And i was wondering the best place's to get it reconditioned would like to spend £400ish with warranty less would be better any idea's would be great thanks in advance

I called pretty much everyone to see what i could do with my 2 dead KKK units and AET turbos were the only people I spoke to who would consider working on it.

I think the initial quote was £300 for it to be refurbed and returned; although should the inner housing have been damaged by the destroyed impellor it could be more.

Funny thing this exact thing happened to me on Wednesday. Driving out of a car park on the way home accelerated, lost all power and the turbo started to whine really loudly. Got annoyed and stripped the turbo out to find this

Now I've since rang around about 10 turbo repair places most of which where ridiculously priced or told me what I wanted to do couldn't be done! I live in Ireland they are all mostly idiots in the car businesses here! I finally found a guy that said he could get me a PD150( really hard come by here) from Poland shipped here and he will recondition the turbo with a year warranty for €360 including giving him my old one!

I used the turbo blowing as an excuse to go bigger!

This is what my turbo looked like when it went.Oldpd130turbo_zpscb0e94f4.jpg

I was lucky tho my intercooler caught all of the debris.

Lucky mine made it through to the pistons and had to have a new engine!

Gutted! Was so relieved when I found out mine didn't.

Just means I now have a spare engine to put 2.0 pistons in :-)

Is there anyway to check if any of the blades have gone into the engine without having to take the engine apart? i took the intercooler and all the piping off but found no pieces! is that a bad sign?

If there is blades missing from the turbo, and none of them are in the intercooler or pipework... It makes sence to assume its inside the engine somewhere!

Could always take the glow plugs out and get a camera down and see inside that way.
