Bye Bye warranty! 60,000 miles in 20 months.

My company Superb GL Estate has just passed the 60,000 mile mark and with not one single issue to report.

Economy is an impressive 64.4mpg, although, admittedly this is mainly motorway miles.

A bit more power would be nice, however, the time to have remapped would have been at new, rather than halfway through the 48 months the car will be my company transport. Has anyone taken the plunge and remapped a Superb 1.6Tdi?

I'm already thinking about my replacement in 2 years time and have considered a Octavia III Estate, however, the Superb bootspace is larger with useful covered side cubbys, as well as a 10 litre larger tank which gives a fairly easily achievable 800+ mile range with a light right foot.

Superb standard equipment is also more generous than the equivalent Octavia III. I mean, a SE Octavia has no cruise, no armrest or electrically foldinging door mirrors.

Any other high mileage Superb 1.6Tdi drivers out there?

60,000 miles in 20 months is some going, and that 64.4mpg is quite impressive. I personally would get another Superb rather than an Octavia.

I have a superb (non greenline)) 1.6 TDI hatch S spec, mine is a January 2013 62 plate and it is on 20360 Miles the now, the consumtion is good and the only prob i have had is whining starter which is getting replaced under warranty on the 5th of July

Agreed, as the following quote from the New Vehicle Warranty leaflet confirms.

Three-year Vehicle Warranty.

All new Skoda passenger cars purchased from an authorised Skoda retailer in the United Kingdom qualify for a three-year vehicle warranty consisting of a two-year/unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty and a third year warranty with a 60,000 mile limitation.

New Octavia is crud inside and looks like a Korean styled it imo (actually on seconds I don't think it's that good tbh), I'd stay with the Superb myself as it does at least have a classier feel and look to it.

Yes, you're quite right, I forgot the warranty is for unlimited mileage up to 24 months.

No doubt the new Octavia will do everything just fine I just felt it wasn't very lux inside, SE without an armrest is stupid, I was actually going to wait and try to snag a year old one as the body is sorta A4 ish but the cheapish feel inside put me off for now, the Superb is a mixed bag for me, inside it's lacking proper sized seating and it becomes a bit warehouse in effect, had the front seats been longer and wider to match the car and the centre console a bit more involved I think it would be a winner (well it is already tbh but it could be better) the older Superb had a proper feel to the inside like a Ford Granada II had if you can remember back to them where the Superb II is a bit too Octavia with a lot of rear space sadly, I think Superb III when it arrives will be something else, hopefully they will balance the C pillar better on it and give the car a more A8 Phaeton appearance from side and behind.

If I was the OP I would deffo get an extention, I won't list why but I'd advise anyone with a 1.6 TDi engine to do so as it's a small lump in a large car.

No. The car is leased with full maintenance, therefore, it's not me who will have to pick up any out of warranty costs.

I wanted to remap from new 60k miles ago, however, at that time, no-one was able to crack the encrypted ECU. If I remap now, I'll probably have at best 1.5 years usage before the car is changed.

Unlikely, the majority of diesel remaps yield more mpg, if driven in the same manner. Most diesel remaps achieve between about 15-20% torque increase lower down the rev range. So when driven in the same manner they yield about a 5% increase in mpg. From personal experience, the hardest thing is not using extra bhp and torque, so invariably the end result is you end up at roughly same mpg but with a much better car to drive.

I've never re-mapped so I can't say for sure what effect it will have on it, agree that the car should become a better drive though.

Agreed, with that sort of driving the OP will benefit from better fuel economy with the remap. :)

The Performance Torque remap applied to my previous Superb, a 1.9Tdi 105, transformed the car and also resulted in a significant mpg improvement (average mpg up from Combined of 49.6 to 57.2).
