Thinking about buying this

As per title, thinking about getting this Octy. Without knowing much about Octavias (had a Fabia vRS until recently) does this look like a decent buy? Is there anything in particular I should be checking and looking out for?

Seems like a high price for a 55 plate Sport. Thats PD vRS money... Do you definitely need a diesel?

That garage does seem to have some nice cars in though but they do seem a bit overpriced. They had/have a Zafira VXR in which was a couple of thousand more than others on Autotrader... Seems like it might be a finance shop too judging by the ad.

8 years old & only 45k on a diesel thats just over 5.5k miles per year - VERY low ( would be slightly concerned about DPF with such low miles)

Compared to 6 years & 80k miles which is around13k miles per year.

The vRS looks better value as the engine would have been run decently,

I understand that the seller of the vRS WILL probably get defensive over this & say that it still has 5 month on it & has passed its MOT, all I am pointing out is that it is a risk you take, while 1 tester will overlook it, other can play it by the book & fail the car.

At that age it will not have a DPF

very pricey imo for the age. Mileage does increase value but not by that much.

This is pretty much the oldest mk2 octavia you can buy and remembering there is a facelift mk2 and the new mk3 the price should certainly be lower than that

With all due respect that link is from 2+ years ago before the full details of any changes were known. VOSA have subsequently confirmed that DPFs are still not an MOT testable item and will not be for the foreseeable future.

Yep, as above. DPF removal isn't a failure on an MOT (nothing to say it might not be in future though).

guys.....its a pd140 and not a scout so wont have a dpf anyway

I have heard of some people being cautious & having the contents of the DPF removed & a straight through replaced into it, then putting it back so to look at , it looks as though the car still has the DPF. :D

I think the comment about DPF removal was re Emma's PD170 for sale, which is linked 3rd post down, and has had its DPF removed.

That's probably a good idea in any case, I'd always prefer a car to still look completely standard when doing anything like this. I just mention the point about DPFs & MOTs as its a rumour that seems to circulate endlessly, but turns out to have no truth in it.
