Found my Rattles

Featured Replies

Yes finally after four months of disturbance while driving alone. I finally pinned down the last rattle. This one only happened while alone in the car and that got me thinking, Front passenger seat. Yes that's it. The rattle was coming from the seat belt socket. Now I just plug in the seat belt while in the car on my own and no more Rattle.

Other squeaks and rattles were solved easily by not using the sunglasses holder, Lining the upper glove box and tightening or loosening screws. The instrument binnacle squeal comes and goes but isn't too loud so I can put up with that one. If anyone has a fix for that they can let me know.

So Now I am a happy old man.....

Rattles in cars are so annoying but I appreciate that sometimes these are cant be avoided .

I have a few on my Vrs, the dashboard sometimes makes creaking noise but I know there is a fix for this. Door cards and rear suspension are a bug bear at the moment. But I learn to live with these.

Funny my Mum’s S reg 1998 Polo has not one rattle for a 15 year old car I find amazing. Previously though my Monte didn’t have any rattles and when I had my Focus MK1 ST this did not have one either.

I have a dash rattle on my Monte on the left side of the glove box, but I was wondering what fix you were talking about for the dash rattles and things?

I remember taking delivery of the vRS few years back.  Immediately after leaving Capitol Newport the passenger door sprang into life with a good impersonation of an ack-ack gun.  Took the car back "oh yes, we know all about that its caused by loose cables tapping on the door skin".  If they know about the problem, why don't they pick it up and sort it when they PDI the car - or don't they road test them  prior to customer collection anymore?  I had another rattle which seemed to come from the pillar behind the drivers seat. They knew about this one as well, the cause was a rattle under the bonnet which transmitted through the car and made itself heard in the seat belt pillar.  Fixed!

the fix is for the dashboard binnacle which sounds like a sweet wrapper. Comes and goes and seems temperature related.
