skoda octavia 1.6cr starts up slow in the mornimg

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

I have just bought a second hand 12 reg octavia se plus estate 1.6cr tdi dsg with 14k on the clock. The car is very nice but when you first start it in the mornimg it takes the engine a bit to come on.

Could it be glow plugs or prevoius owner worked it too hard?

I would appreciate some advice.

Thanks

Miklos

Unlikely unless you are getting warning lights after its started.

Diesels like to be worked hard. Have you tried giving it the "Italian tune-up"?

Do you mean the engine turns over slowly and takes a few turns before it starts?  Try fully charging the battery and see if that improves matters.

No. What I mean is that it takes a good few second for the engine to start.

I turn the key and wait for the glow plug light to go out. Turn the key to start the engine and the starter motor has to do a good few more turns what I am used to on my old skodas to actually fire the egine up.

That us why I thought one of the glow plugs plays up and egine is not pre heated properly.

Otherwise egine performance is very good. Pulls ok.

On my old skodas both of them were brand new as soon as I turned the ignition egine started. On this one there is a lag.

I'm worried if I bought something with slightly dodge engine.

Maybe the fuel is draing back to the tank overnight? a 12 plate with 14k on it should be covered by the warranty,id pop into your local skoda dealer.
