Bulbs. ..... again, sorry.

Featured Replies

Currently laid up in a hospital bed with Briskoda and ebay as my only friends so no access to handbooks.

I'm trying to find a comprehensive list of the different bulbs used in my 2013 Monte Carlo. More specifically the headlights and front indicators.

I'm not happy with the light from the headlights so my first plan is to get the beam altered to the highest setting. See if that helps. Second would be to do a HID conversion, 35W 6000k bulbs. The projector unit will keep the beam pattern correct and it won't fail MOT as headlamp washers and self levelling is only checked 'if present'.

Can anyone help with the bulb fitments please?

you want H7 bulbs for the headlights  (its just a dipped beam) I only know this because I changed mine (for phillips extream) and its a simple twist out/twist back in..

cant help with the rest , sorry :)

You need a pair of H7's for the headlights and a pair of PY21W's for the indicators.

Most people seem to upgrade to Philips xtreme +100% or Osram Nightbreaker +90% H7's.

Thank you all.

The bulb advice is appreciated and the link is very helpful. Not sure why this info isn't in the handbook.

Still thinking of a HID conversion I have always bought from Car Mod Shop. They are reliable and good after sales very knowledgeable of their products and gave good fitting advice.

Lots of new bulbs orderd now, including interior festoon bulbs and smd number plate bulbs.

I went for a full HID conversion kit with 6000k bulbs.

Just got to get fit enough to change them all about now.

Thanks for the help. ...ps debadged the back of the MC earlier.

I would be interested to hear how you get on with the HID conversion along with all the other bulb changes too... Before & after photos of each would be great!

Also if you have the time, I wonder if you might let me know which ones you bought (as in, all of them!), and what sort of cost they were (feel free to pm if you would prefer!)

Many thanks!

I'll do that zouche, no problem at all. I'll get all the info together. Think I have only spent about £100 so far. With the bulbs I have used I have had no error codes or flickering.

I would be happy to do a guide on the conversion when ive done it, with photos. Ive done it before on my previous megane and its not too tricky at all. You do have to cut the cap on the back of the light unit though. No big deal as its rubber.

The dip/main beam caused me a real headache today....all the info suggests the dip is H7 & the main is also H7 which if taken literally is true and you would expect there to be two separate bulbs as the is not a bi halogen bulb.....wrong. the dip and main beam run off the same H7 bulb! There is a flap in the headlamp unit that raises to change the beam pattern and let more light out, new one on me. Every day is a school day :-)

Awesome, I look forward to seeing it!

It's been discussed on this forum several times.  Black pack headlights use a single pair of H7's with the shutter system and Fabia's with the standard silver headlights use two pairs of H7's (one pair for dip, one pair for high beam).

What is 'Black pack'? Is that the name for the tinted projector DE units? I hadn't looked around the forum for info on the number of H7s used, just assumed. ..... will take note of the old saying, 'never assume etc etc'

Fitted the conversion today, just need to check the level now, that's tomorrow's job. .. along with the guide, has that been done before?

Really should have a good mooch around the forum, it's a minefield of info and helpful people :-)

just a question before you commit.... aren't aftermarket HID's now going to fail an MOT, as the new MOT requires washers and self-levelling? (or factory fit, NOT sure of the rules, hence why I'm asking....)

Mine are already fitted, did it yesterday.

The guidelines are a bit ambiguous and open for interpretation. It states that HIDs 'should' have self levelling and washers, and were present 'must' be in working order. So I spoke to a couple of MOT testers and they said a conversion would pass if the beam pattern was correct and they were behind a projector lens.

The self levelling and washers only applies to standard equipment/fitted HID setup

ahhh that was it, projector lenses and correct pattern, shouldnt be a problem with the mark II fabia!.... new there was something ... thanks for the clarification :)

Took the car to my local garage this morning as I wanted to get complete clarity and check levelling and beam Pattern. The conversion will pass an MOT (in 3 yrs) the beam pattern is spot on, I had a look myself and the kick is in the right place and I had the beam leveled. All done for free!

Happy boy with my new toy! Shame is summer, it never gets 'properly' dark here.

It's the nickname for the black headlights fitted to the Monte Carlo's and the newer VRS's.

Thanks :)

I had the levels checked and they where a bit off. My local garage checked them and corrected them and confirmed they WILL pass MOT :D
