Featured Replies

right guys looks like the skodas coming off the road for some engine mods.

so ive got the chance to buy a ek9 type r with an integra type r turbo lump..

guy says it uses about 2litres around every 8 months ..

and if left ticking over for a while the first time you boot it you get a puff of black smoke only the once..

i understand the black smoke is running rich..

any details if this oil usage is normal been told it is but want as much advice as possible and any way to cure the running rich problem without a new standalone ecu

I KNOW THIS ISNT THE PLACE AS ITS A SKODA DFORUM LOL BUT HEY EVERYONE ON HERES HELPFULL NEVER KNOW SOMEONE MIGHT OWN OR HAVE OWNED ONE

I had an ek9 with teg engine in it

Used minimal oil

Vtec does use a bit of oil and so do turbo cars

Sounds like the car as got piston ring issues if its blowing that much

I'd want to know mileage per litre of oil. I don't know about Honda pistons but I'd be concerned as to the state of the ring lands. Read a few honda supercharge/turbocharge artitcles over the years.... Tuning/mapping seems to be the big issue. Most articles I've seen run an additional fueling controller.... Not the best solution, especially if pushing it.

If he says 2 every 8 months he means every 6 months.

But the key is how many miles is that?

It could be 1,000 or 10,000 and you can only decide if 2 litres is a lot by knowing this.

Sounds like the oil rings are shot. I've had numerous B/D series engined cars and never suffered excessive oil usage. The only time you get that is with one thats spent most of its life in VTEC. Too many rough EK9's out there. Buy a clean/well looked after model. You'll suffer less issues and have better luck when it comes to selling the car on.

My Type R hardly uses any oil - some are burners but if kept topped up then they're usually ok.  Just listen for the bottom end knocking if you're worried.  Also as mentioned you need to find out how many miles is 6/8 months?

Guessing a car like that wont be cheap??  I'd keep looking for a good example relatively standard

When I had a Honda civic VTI I don't ever remember having to top up oil. Usually by the time it needed topping it was the 6k service so got changed anyway.

If your just after a car to get you by then just buy a standard EK9. Much less hassle and much easier to sell on.
