ABS and Traction light on - sometimes

Featured Replies

Hi All, I have a new problem with my car. When I start it at work, and only really at work, first time my ABS and Traction control light stay on. If then after a few minutes I pull up at lights and stop/start the car the traction light goes out and after a few moments, more than the usual check delay, the ABS light goes out.

I am thinking maybe brake switch but why sometimes? Or what about a low battery meaning the modules are getting confused when starting?

Any Ideas?

Dodgy abs sensor on my old passat gave similar symptoms, not definate though, any way of getting the codes scanned?

My moneys on a faulty speed sensor/ dodgy connection at the plug, as mentioned, get a fault code scan done.

I have Vag Com, ill scan. Cheers guys. Is it mega bux and garage job or easy change? Might do it anyway if they are prone to go.

If it's the speed sensor, I changed one on SWMBO's old Golf in ~10 minutes, two bolts and a plug was all there was to it I think.

is it sitting steady on idle?

Mine has been stuttery on the move and wont sit steady on idle, Already done sparks and coilpacks, the other day back from a 300 mile round trip it hesetated and then i got both these lights on.

scanned it when i got home and got

 - MAF - Intermitent

 - ABS - Engine control module - Intermitent

These are signs to the MAF on the way out. i read somewhere that the maf code wont bring a light up so it has to use the ECM to flag it on the dash.

Giveing the MAF a clean tonight to ruel this out.

Hows she running? good? Prob a wheel sensor Bad? prob MAF.

Wheel sensors are ok, they just get stuck normally and you have to use your friend Mr. Big F. Hammer.
